"Hazardous tsunami waves from this earthquake are possible within 300 km of the epicenter along the coasts of Jamaica... Cayman Islands and Cuba," the Center said.
The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that based on all available data, waves reaching 0.3 to 1 meter above the tide level were possible for portions of Belize, Cuba, Honduras, Mexico, Cayman Islands and Jamaica.
Cayman Islands' disaster management agency urged residents to move away from coastal areas and asked those in low-lying areas should "evacuate vertically" in strong multi-story buildings.

Kingston 8 - I felt a continuous swaying, rolling and vibrating feeling like motion sickness, which lasted for what seemed like minutes, made me feel nauseous afterwards. The crockery in the cupboards were rattling, the pictures were shaking against the wall. The other 3 persons in the room felt it also. Fort Myers Beach - We did not feel shaking but observed the water in our canal rise up and down all during the flat tide and no wind around 2:10 PM today, 1/28/2020. It was so weird. No damage. Downtown Kingston - I was in the Court house a person began scream and run out the Court causing a mad rush to the door. Nassau - 10 seconds. Chair shook slightly. Palm Beach Gardens - 2 times vibrations about 7 seconds each. Half Way Tree - Lasted about 2 minutes; building was swaying; I felt dizzy. Runaway Bay - In the Grand Bahia Principal Palace in Runaway bay Jamaica booking an excursion and it lasted about 30 seconds then started again 10 seconds later for around a minute! The hotel lobby was evacuated but we were all ok! I hope everyone else that felt it is safe x Kingston Waltham Park rd - We were at work sitting in the lunch room and I actually feel underneath shaking and I was asking my otuer 4 co workers if they felt the shake. However they said it must be a truck passing and causing the building to vibrate but I was like I'm still feeling it guys it's a earthquake same time another co worker came and said you guys dont feel the earthquake. Trelawny - I was sitting in a lounge chair by the pool and felt my chair moving, lasted probably over a minute. Very strong. Thought I had too many cocktails at first, finally asked my husband next to me if his chair was moving. First quake felt for both of us. Others sitting near us also felt it, and on the beach too. Cayman Islands - I felt it, I was on a cruise boat when it happened. I was entering the elevator when it happened, I was a little scared but something inside me told me to get off of the elevator because it could be dangerous. I was scared but when I stepped off of the elevator I thought that the engine of the cruise boat was just starting, and I didn’t worry because there were no sirens or warning so I stayed calm. A couple hours later the captain told us that it was a tsunami warning but that we were fine. George Town - Moderate shaking for a couple of mins. Building,filing cabs, ceilings, everything shaking. West Palm Beach - Wow! I though the train across Dixie derailed or something ! Interesting! It was quick and then stopped! Lake Worth - Chandeliers were swaying didn’t feel shaking. Manzanillo - 4 secs Montego bay - Moderate shaking Akumal - About 30 seconds. no damage noticed Grand Cayman - lasted about 45 seconds Falmouth - At least 2 mins. The board structure building was shaking and everything in it. However, there was no property damage. Chicago - Weak shaking Kingston - Light shaking but it lasted over a minute. Mayarí - Strong shaking Port Antonio, Portland - Strong shaking Belize City - Very weak shaking Cancun - Wife called me out on balcony and mild shaking for about 1 minute. Water shaking on the table. Whitehouse, Westmoreland Jamaica - Swaying sensation of entire building, at least 45 seconds duration Nassau - Lasted about 30 sec Merida - We didn't feel the shaking but the pool had a strong wave, back and forth, like if there was a change on the horizontal way. Cozumel - Felt light shaking on the 11th floor. Lasted only seconds Portmore - A vigorous shaking of my bed woke me up. I ran to the door jam and it lasted several seconds. After I went back to bed I felt more tremors for about 30 seconds. Coral Gables, Florida - I was seating @ my desk, my body swayed side to side & I felt a bit lightheaded for couple of seconds. Shook for approx. 60 seconds then started again for approx. 40 seconds....startling experience , no damages noted Kingston - Arrived at work, parked my car, everyone was on the lawn. Me: What happened? Co-worker: Did you feel the Earthquake! Me: I was driving, did not feel a thing! Montego Bay - Driving stopped at a stop light. Ejections the stoplight swinging. I figured it was one of the small quakes that are common here, but was surprised that it it came all the way from the Cayman Trench. Mandeville, Manchester Parish - No damage to property. The shaking and rumbling lasted one to two minutes followed by two to three minutes of swaying. No property damage that we can see so far. Miami - Live on 39th floor, building swaying and everything in our condo was swaying and building made creaking noises Equilibrium way off. East End - Moderate shaking George Town - At 2:10 p.m., shaking first like helicopter overhead but quickly built up to light fixtures swinging for about a minute. No visible building damage and no loss of power or water. Montego Bay - The building and lights were just shaking back and forth and it felt as if it would never end. It was crazy. 7 mile beach - 45 seconds of shaking on the beach, bunch of water splashed out of hotel pool, no cracks in hotel walls Southfield - I was sitting in a chair and the entire cement house started to shake. It seemed to last about 4 minutes but I didn't time it. I have never been in one before. Nothing fell as far as I know. I ran out to office where everyone else was and that's where I am now. It was about 3:00pm West Bay - Very strong shake, light fixtures shaking, the water on the lake nearby became wavy Playa Del Carmen - A few seconds of shaking on the 3rd floor. Checked outside to see what happened. St. Catherine - I saw my computer screen start shaking infront of me. Moderate shaking and the glasses could be heard hitting against the cupboard door. Lasted for about a minute Montego Bay - God is in control. Still feeling the aftershock Old Harbour - I felt the floor lightly swaying and you could see the signs outside slightly swinging. No damage of property. It actually felt fun. Akumal - Felt slight shaking Esher Lucea - It lasted for about 2 minutes, heard a loud rumble and then the house swayed, felt dizzy, the strongest I have ever felt. My friend reported the car shaking in the garage and chandelier swaying. No damage so is seen far. Puerto Aventuras - felt all the way down the Riviera Maya, I see from social media posts, but here we felt slight shaking Negril - About 1 minute. No observed damage. Cozumel - On the fifth floor of a hotel near the cruise ship pier in San Miguel, felt really light shaking for maybe a minute or two with slightly greater shaking for approximately 20 seconds. St ann - I was in class then I suddenly i felt the ground shaking for about 2 minutes then it wnet away, we had to stay underneath our desks. Next it came again for about 3 minutes but,most of the other classes didn't feel it or hear it. It was kinda strong for me because this is my first experience. Cancún - I thought the car motor was running while lying against its door...but I had the car keys in my pocket! Brown's Town St. Ann - Lasted 2 minutes Georgetown - It was a powerful earthquake it shook the building I was in and lasted longer then I thought it would. Kingston - I was in my office speaking to one of my staff on the phone and saw my computer monitor shaking for a while. I then realized that there is no wind or window open so there should be no reason for my computer to shake. I asked my staff if he felt anything shaking which he responded, no! But then I felt it again. I immediately hung up the phone, and ran to my co-workers in the lunch room. They said they felt it too. We all ran out of the office so fast and join other people in the office complex. Houston - We are a testing company, and our balances went out of scale.

MMI IV (Light shaking)	? People : Generally noticed indoors but not outside. Light sleepers may be awakened. Vibration may be likened to the passing of heavy traffic, or to the jolt of a heavy object falling or striking the building. Fittings : Doors and windows rattle. Glassware and crockery rattle. Liquids in open vessels may be slightly disturbed. Standing motorcars may rock. Pendulum clocks stop, start, or change rate. Structures : Some large display windows cracked. A few earthenware toilet fixtures cracked.
MMI VI (Strong shaking)	? People Felt by all. People and animals alarmed. Many run outside. Difficulty experienced in walking steadily. Fittings : Objects fall from shelves. Pictures fall from walls. Some furniture moved on smooth floors, some unsecured free-standing fireplaces moved. Glassware and crockery broken. Very unstable furniture overturned. Small church and school bells ring. Appliances move on bench or table tops. Filing cabinets or "easy glide" drawers may open (or shut). Structures : Slight damage to buildings with low standard. Some stucco or cement plaster falls. Large display windows broken. Damage to a few weak domestic chimneys, some may fall. Environment : Trees and bushes shake, or are heard to rustle. Loose material may be dislodged from sloping ground, e.g. existing slides, talus slopes, shingle slides.
MMI VII (Very strong shaking)	? People General alarm. Difficulty experienced in standing. Noticed by motorcar drivers who may stop. Fittings : Large bells ring. Furniture moves on smooth floors, may move on carpeted floors. Substantial damage to fragile contents of buildings. Structures : Unreinforced stone and brick walls cracked. Low standard buildings cracked with some minor masonry falls. A few instances of damage to buildings of ordinary workmanship. Unbraced parapets, unbraced brick gables, and architectural ornaments fall. Roofing tiles, especially ridge tiles may be dislodged. Many unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, often falling from roof-line. Water tanks Type I burst. A few instances of damage to brick veneers and plaster or cement-based linings. Unrestrained water cylinders (hot-water cylinders) may move and leak. Some common windows cracked. Suspended ceilings damaged. Environment : Water made turbid by stirred up mud. Small slides such as falls of sand and gravel banks, and small rock-falls from steep slopes and cuttings. Instances of settlement of unconsolidated or wet, or weak soils. Some fine cracks appear in sloping ground. A few instances of liquefaction (i.e. small water and sand ejections).
MMI VIII (Severe shaking)	? People Alarm may approach panic. Steering of motorcars greatly affected. Structures : Low standard buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. ordinary workmanship buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged in some cases. A few instances of damage to buildings and bridges designed and built to resist earthquakes. Monuments and pre-1976 elevated tanks and factory stacks twisted or brought down. Some pre-1965 infill masonry panels damaged. A few post-1980 brick veneers damaged. Decayed timber piles of houses damaged. Houses not secured to foundations may move. Most unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, some below roof-line, many brought down. Environment : Cracks appear on steep slopes and in wet ground. Small to moderate slides in roadside cuttings and unsupported excavations. Small water and sand ejections and localized lateral spreading adjacent to streams, canals, lakes, etc.
MMI IX (Violent shaking)	? Structures Many low standard buildings destroyed. Ordinary workmanship buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. Buildings and bridges designed and built to resist earthquakes damaged in some cases, some with flexible frames seriously damaged. Damage or permanent distortion to some buildings and bridges, designed and built to normal use standards. Houses not secured to foundations shifted off. Brick veneers fall and expose frames. Environment : Cracking of ground conspicuous. Landsliding general on steep slopes. Liquefaction effects intensified and more widespread, with large lateral spreading and flow sliding adjacent to streams, canals, lakes, etc.
