  • Mexico City - Having been warned by the Mexican Seismic Alert System I was able to feel the entire shaking from its soft beginning through its strong development. The entire event lasted some 4 minutes in the downtown area. There were no damages in my two story house and eventhough the shaking was very strong it could not compare to the earthquakes we had 3 years ago. Given the fact that this was originated quite far from Mexico City, the movement resembled that of a boat strongly rocked by wild sea.

Immediately before the shaking my dogs were startled and began barking and seemed anxious. After returning to the apartment it was in a state of disarray with a big mess including food everywhere. My wife was fine but blamed our cats for the mess saying they were pouncing around in excitment randomly knocking loose objects to the floor. We took photos for insurance, and,

    People :
Felt by persons at rest, on upper floors or favorably placed.
    MMI III (Weak shaking) ?
    People :
Felt indoors; hanging objects may swing, vibration similar to passing of light trucks, duration may be estimated, may not be recognized as an earthquake.
    MMI IV (Light shaking) ?
    People :
Generally noticed indoors but not outside. Light sleepers may be awakened. Vibration may be likened to the passing of heavy traffic, or to the jolt of a heavy object falling or striking the building.
