Update 15:19 UTC, January 11 : Readers and Twitter users reported cracked walls after this quake. No reports of major damage were issued by any agency.
Update 01:50 UTC : Below the latest PHIVOLCS earthquake sheet. We notice only one M2.3 aftershock
Update 20:15 UTC
Phivolcs updated it's data to Magnitude 6.0 and a depth of 85 km. The epicenter is located offshore, more away from the populated parts of Luzon (56 km west of Olongapo City). This makes the quake less dangerous, but still powerful enough to crack walls and roofs. So far, there are no reports of damage like this. Experience reports we received confirm that a moderate to strong intensity was noticed in some locations, strong enough to knock pictures and ornaments off walls.
Note that this quake was not strong enough to generate a Tsunami.
Update 19:55 UTC
People from Subic Bay, where the epicenter is located, reported us that power was cut in some areas right after the earthquake.
Original message: This strong earthquake of Magnitude 5.7 (phivolcs data) hit large parts of Luzon and was felt in greater Manila area. The epicenter is located on the west coast of the island, approx. 60 km west of Manila.
Based on the preliminary USGS earthquake data (Magnitude 5.8, intermediate depth), we call this quake dangerous for towns and villages near the epicenter. Minor to moderate damage is likely.
