Update 23:17 UTC : We are happy to report that after consulting our many sources, no damage or injuries have been found.
Update 08:55 UTC : This is how the seismogram looks like at nearby Eilat (Israel). Impressive no?

Update 08:05 UTC : The epicenter of the earthquake is relatively close to Petra Jordan (who suffered a lot of earthquake damage from earthquakes in historic times). We do not think however that this earthquake will lead to serious damage but slight damage is always possible.
If you were one of the people visiting Petra while the earthquake happened, please use the form below to tell us what you felt and if you have seen some damage if any. Thank you
Petra will also be visited by the pope one of the coming days. We do however not expect any serious aftershocks from this earthquake (but to be honest, nobody can predict earthquakes at the current level of science).

Update 08:05 UTC : ER does not expect serious damage from this earthquake as the earthquake type will be probably EXTENSION(to be confirmed) (2 sides of the Jordan river pulling away from each other). The area has however a potential of an M6 earthquake and historic records are showing some very damaging earthquakes.
Update : Exactly on the day that the pope has boarded an airplane towards Amman, Jordan, an earthquake struck the border area in between Jordan and Israel also exactly the 2 countries the Pope will visit.
