  • Broome - Everything was shaking badly, my car was shaking like a small you.
  • Broome - Felt like it went for a good minute maybe longer
  • broome - started with slight vibrations, but then got stronger and lasted for one to two minutes... no damage, altho pictures and other items crooked or moved !! quite scary

  • Broome - We live in uppper level flats Broome north. Wind howling whole apartment was shaking and trembled, felt like it was going to collapse- started out moderate and became intensely strong at one point before it settled off- we all stood under the door frames. Lasted longer than a minute - wasn’t sure it would end
  • South Hedland - Loud rumbling and house shaking.
  • Broome - Over one minute. Our seats outside the van were moving and our fan nearly fell off the table.
  • Broome - 35 - 40 seconds; No damage detected yet.

  • Eco beach broome - Standing on the mudflats at the beach limestone cliffs colapsing onto the beach lasted 10 20 seconds
  • Broome - Shook for about a minute maybe more. Nothing was damaged but we had to grab the TV to stop it from falling

  • Broome Western Australia - All the houses around us rattled, windows vibrating, run to the lawn, almost fell because of the shaking, lasted about 20 sec with one tiny brake in between, no damage
  • Broome - Vase fell off table and shattered at home, ceiling boards displaced pictures crooked
  • East perth - On the 10th floor of an apartment block I could feel movement some noise from the building and curtains where swaying
  • Broome wa - House shaking Ground moving up and down outside Cars rolling from side to side Pool over lapping the sides Lasted about 5 minutes from start to finish
  • Broome - The quake lasted for approximately 3 minutes gets. The noise was earth. Many people left their houses to observe what was happening outside. As I looked at the pool the water was spilling over the side. No significant property damage however some cracks have appeared in certain areas, mainly the walls.

  • Broome - Fan started shaking , then worse, ceiling shaking, foor & walls shaking,picture fell over ,couple of items fell off shelf, I then raced down stairs from 2 storey unit ,& ground shaking, then 2 others from other unit race down stairs, & I look at them & say 'Earhtquake', whole quake went for about I think 65 seconds
  • Port Hedland - Was a low rumbling sound, not very load, shaking of whole building, as though you're in an older elevator. Was enough to scare the cat and knock out power
  • DarwIn - Weak shaking
  • broome - 30-40 seconds, at first I thought it was just people running on the decking next to our room but then everything was moving back and forth and the fans were shaking so we evacuated from the hostel
  • Broome - Strong shaking
  • Broome - 40 to 60 seconds of shaking and feeling the earth move underneath us. Parked cars lifted off the ground.
  • Broome - Floor making sound and shaking - 1-2 minutes
  • Karratha - no damage heard the noise coming then the shaking 5 to 10 seconds
  • West Perth - 4th Level building started shaking approx. 1.45pm WST and slight shaking stopped approx. 1.52pm
  • Darwin - Very weak shaking
  • Karratha - The guitar sitting on the side of the wall began moving, which indicated that something was shaking. We assumed it was construction next door, however later discovered it was an earthquake.
  • Broome - I felt it 12 miles out from Broome. Caravan and trucks all shaking up to a minute
  • Broome - Started as slow deep rumble, which continued to build and build in strength and noise. Enough strength that we could hear things coming of shelves and breaking in the shops. Lasted 1-2 minutes.
  • Broome - Shaking lasted between 45secs to 1min. Intensity of the shaking free with each passing second. We were in Zanders Restaurant. When the rumbling began, we were all unsure what was happening. As the shaking intensified people leap from tables and headed outdoors. Damage to the restaurant was minor with 2 aircon grills falling from the roof and a couple of speaker covers loosening. No people were hurt.Definitely an unnerving experience!
  • Dampier - I thought someone was on a jackhammer outside for 15 secs.
  • North Perth - Slight shaking door on wardrobe rattled and ceiling fan swaying slightly, lasted approx 1 min
  • Broome - Lasted about a minute. Just arrived at hotel& nothing seems damaged.
  • Port Smith - Sitting at on camp chairs, could feel the ground moving, low rumbling noise and then everything started moving. Boat, car and caravans swaying lots, water tanks on stands moving a lot with water slopping out. Lasted about 1 to 2 minutes, maybe a bit longer. Felt a small aftershock. No damage. Felt very similar to the simulator at Questacon.
  • karratha - same shake same length same noise as my lombok earthquake experience last year in July
  • Bulgarra - Was inside then felt a sustained rumbling that continued for about a minute and intensified then went outside and felt the earth shaking lightly
  • Broome - Moderate shaking
  • Broome - Strong shaking approx. 30 seconds. Our caravan shook a lot. No damage, then we were concerned about a tsunami occurring.
  • Perth - On 5th level in a building. Notable swaying for about 3 minutes at 1:45pm. No doubt it was a quake.
  • Broome - Shook car and caravan and lasted about 45 seconds. Intensity built up and petered out over that time. Low rumble Grantkeenan
  • Port Hedland - At work and was parked, felt my vehicle rocking from side to side progressively stronger and thought the engine was shaking it. Felt like string wind buffeting the car side to side. Jumped it but not much wind. Saw some movement in water and slowly subsided.
  • Rockingham - Did not feel it, but I saw Pool sloshing water back and forward.
  • Burswood - No damage but the Aurora building was swaying side ti side.
  • Karratha - It moved my bed with me on it!! Jeeze takes me back to NZ quakes!!

    Some large display windows cracked. A few earthenware toilet fixtures cracked.
    MMI VI (Strong shaking) ?
    People Felt by all. People and animals alarmed. Many run outside. Difficulty experienced in walking steadily.
    Fittings :
    Objects fall from shelves. Pictures fall from walls. Some furniture moved on smooth floors, some unsecured free-standing fireplaces moved. Glassware and crockery broken. Very unstable furniture overturned. Small church and school bells ring. Appliances move on bench or table tops. Filing cabinets or "easy glide" drawers may open (or shut).
    Structures :
    Slight damage to buildings with low standard. Some stucco or cement plaster falls. Large display windows broken. Damage to a few weak domestic chimneys, some may fall.
    Environment :
    Trees and bushes shake, or are heard to rustle. Loose material may be dislodged from sloping ground, e.g. existing slides, talus slopes, shingle slides.
    MMI VII (Very strong shaking) ?
    General alarm. Difficulty experienced in standing. Noticed by motorcar drivers who may stop.
    Fittings :
    Large bells ring. Furniture moves on smooth floors, may move on carpeted floors. Substantial damage to fragile contents of buildings.
    Structures :
    Unreinforced stone and brick walls cracked. Low standard buildings cracked with some minor masonry falls. A few instances of damage to buildings of ordinary workmanship. Unbraced parapets, unbraced brick gables, and architectural ornaments fall. Roofing tiles, especially ridge tiles may be dislodged. Many unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, often falling from roof-line. Water tanks Type I burst. A few instances of damage to brick veneers and plaster or cement-based linings. Unrestrained water cylinders (hot-water cylinders) may move and leak. Some common windows cracked. Suspended ceilings damaged.
    Environment :
    Water made turbid by stirred up mud. Small slides such as falls of sand and gravel banks, and small rock-falls from steep slopes and cuttings. Instances of settlement of unconsolidated or wet, or weak soils. Some fine cracks appear in sloping ground. A few instances of liquefaction (i.e. small water and sand ejections).
    MMI VIII (Severe shaking) ?
    People Alarm may approach panic. Steering of motorcars greatly affected. Structures : Low standard buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. ordinary workmanship buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged in some cases. A few instances of damage to buildings and bridges designed and built to resist earthquakes. Monuments and pre-1976 elevated tanks and factory stacks twisted or brought down. Some pre-1965 infill masonry panels damaged. A few post-1980 brick veneers damaged. Decayed timber piles of houses damaged. Houses not secured to foundations may move. Most unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, some below roof-line, many brought down. Environment : Cracks appear on steep slopes and in wet ground. Small to moderate slides in roadside cuttings and unsupported excavations. Small water and sand ejections and localized lateral spreading adjacent to streams, canals, lakes, etc.
    MMI IX (Violent shaking) ?
    Structures Many low standard buildings destroyed. Ordinary workmanship buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. Buildings and bridges designed and built to resist earthquakes damaged in some cases, some with flexible frames seriously damaged. Damage or permanent distortion to some buildings and bridges, designed and built to normal use standards. Houses not secured to foundations shifted off. Brick veneers fall and expose frames. Environment : Cracking of ground conspicuous. Landsliding general on steep slopes. Liquefaction effects intensified and more widespread, with large lateral spreading and flow sliding adjacent to streams, canals, lakes, etc.
