  • San Clemente, CA - July 5, 2019, about 8:25 PM PDT: somewhat light moderate shaking, lasting about 30 seconds, long enough to alert me. No damage noted, but this one was stronger than the "wave" shaking yesterday morning (July 4) earthquake (6.4/6.6).
  • Modesto - Very weak shaking
  • Los Angeles - July 5, 2019 at about 8:25 PM PST, lasted 30 seconds, stronger than yesterday's quake (6.6?), came in about 3-4 waves, shaking of blinds against windows, appearance of furniture 'moving' about 4" variance.
  • Nipomo, ca - 20 seconds rolling effect at about 8:25 pm (estimate) due to Ridgecrest 6.9 aftershock
  • Palm Springs - About 8:15 PM, Friday 5 July 2019: No ground movement was noticed. But, there was extraordinary water sloshing in the 15 x 30' swimming pool that could not be attributed to wind or any other evident cause. Somewhat like images of pool water on a cruise ship.

  • Las Vegas - Shook for about 25-35 Seconds Hanging plant was swaying
  • Huntington Beach - Started shaking mildly then I felt it getting stronger so I went outside in the Neighborhood street. It kept rolling through and started to slow down then it started up again totaling a couple of minutes! Around 8:10? PM. Friday July 5, 2019
  • huntington beach - sitting in car on main st felt car sway my husband thought someone was jumping on bumper the people around us had a scared look and people came out of nearby businesses
  • Ventura - No damage, but extreme rolling, for an extended time -- at least 60 seconds. Took a long time to settle down.
  • San Diego - Lasted about 15 seconds and we had no damages. It happened at 8:22pm.
  • Santa Ana - Felt bedroom floor and sliding closet doors shaking and making little crunchy sounds like Rice Krispies, when I had just taken off my shoes and watch and was going to change to p.j.s but dashed back to step into sneakers and grabbed my watch and a shirt jacket. All neighbors were outside with us sharing the experience.
  • Huntington Beach - Dizzying sway for ~ 30 seconds similar to sea-legs. No property damage, hand-towels & blind pulls swayed like pendulums.
  • Bakersfield - 25 seconds. Slight at first gentle small rolls. Larger rolling, then 2 sharp jolts. Back to small roll then nothing. Some items fell from a shelf. Its dark now so tomorrow I am going to look for cracks in our house.
  • Ventura - Not sure how long, but kept rolling & rolling, with each set of rolls stronger than the last. Blinds began swaying. Our family dog began barking (and cat is still hiding under the car out front). Still feeling slightly nauseous after nearly an hour.
  • Bakersfield - Light shaking
  • Santa Ana - Skipped the pjs and put the sneakers and watch back on and dashed outside with husband and neighbors. I always get the blues just before an earthquake, but but as soon as it hits either local or in a far country the blues are gone. But I cannot, cannot predict them.
  • Carlsbad, Ca - Waiting at a stoplight at intersection LaCosta Ave and I-5 . Our car rocked about 7 seconds. We could see the van in front of us rocking side to side.
  • Oxnard - I felt the 4th of July earthquake and it was very light shaking- it only lasted 8-10 seconds. Tonight I felt another earthquake and it was definitely stronger! It lasted less than a minute but probably 30 seconds. My bed was moving and I could feel the building swayed back and forth. Some of a pool’s water ended up spilling into the street.
  • Salida - Sounded like a big boom dog was barking and lamps rocking.
  • Visalia, CA - second since around 8 pm. Previous much longer and stronger. Things moved on shelves, lights, fans moving, more of a rolling movement. It kept going for quite awhile 45 seconds? House creaking and moving side to side. Just had another not as strong more rolling house moving up and down lights and fans not moving. Lasted about 15 seconds.
  • Tehachapi - Hard to say duration--25 seconds or so? Hanging plant continued to move for quite awhile after quake. I believe there was an aftershock maybe around 9:15 as hanging objects were moving again and it felt like couch rolled slightly.
  • Murrieta - On Bed watching TV. Bed was shaking for about 5 seconds. It stopped for about 10 seconds and happened again but for 10 seconds instead
  • Hilmar - Felt the 7.1 in ridgecrest around 820pm. Was only minimal amount of swaying motion. No local damage.

  • Carlsbad - Totally mild
  • Mesquite - The quake lasted about 40-50 seconds as my family and I were playing games. The lights were shaking and I felt my chair rolling . Very dizzying for a moment.
  • Carpinteria - It seemed long, longer than the one earlier, the 6.4. This was rated 7.1. my desk chair was rolling, doors were swinging and hanging plants swinging
  • Turlock California - Roughly a minute
  • LOS ANGELES - July 5, 8:22 pm. Room started shaking so much, pants in closet swung back and forth. Not just pants -- the room swung back and forth! Not like it was on hinges. Like the whole building slid, as if the earth below moved on a free-floating plate! The closet’s vertical lines moved 3-4 inches right to left. I was sitting. Seriously thought I’d hafta throw pants on and run outside. Waited for it to stop. But it kept shaking. Run? Or stay? And then it stopped. Nothing fell. No new cracks.
  • Northwest Las Vegas - In Las Vegas on 07/05/2019 at about 8:20 pm pst felt the floor swaying underneath me in the kitchen. Noticed all my hanging lamps and fans swaying as well. Immediately stood in a doorway.

  • South Gate - I began to feel the shaking for about 5 to 6 seconds. Everything felt like it had been shaking.
  • Visalia, CA - It felt like King Kong was shaking my building! It seemed like it would never end, but I will guess that it lasted anywhere from 30-60 seconds. BTW, I live on the 9th floor of apartment building.
  • Coalinga - It lasted close to a minute. No damage other than grandchildren who were confused about what was happening.
  • Garden Grove - M7.1 quake on 7-5-19 at 8:19 p.m. I live close to Disneyland. It was a bit of gentle rolling then a sharp hard jolt followed by a little less strong but more rolling and rocking. Bells hanging on the door were continuously shaking and ringing. The hard part lasted for at least 45 seconds then continued more gently for at least 30+ more seconds. No damage. No need to duck and hold. Much more significant earthquake than the M6.4 on 7-4-19.
  • Los Angeles - Seemed to last at least 30 seconds.
  • Alhambra - On July fourth, the earthquake arrived in the morning (10:34 a.m.). Last night the temblor duration increased but the epicenter went north about est. 9 miles from the previous intense earthquake.

    Shaking Strength *
MMI II (Very weak shaking) ?
    People :
Felt by persons at rest, on upper floors or favorably placed.
    MMI III (Weak shaking) ?
    People :
Felt indoors; hanging objects may swing, vibration similar to passing of light trucks, duration may be estimated, may not be recognized as an earthquake.
    MMI IV (Light shaking) ?
    People :
Generally noticed indoors but not outside. Light sleepers may be awakened. Vibration may be likened to the passing of heavy traffic, or to the jolt of a heavy object falling or striking the building.
    Fittings :
Doors and windows rattle. Glassware and crockery rattle. Liquids in open vessels may be slightly disturbed. Standing motorcars may rock.
    Structures :
Walls and frames of buildings, and partitions and suspended ceilings in commercial buildings, may be heard to creak.
    MMI V (Moderate shaking) ?
    People :
Generally felt outside, and by almost everyone indoors. Most sleepers awakened. A few people alarmed.
    Fittings :
Small unstable objects are displaced or upset. Some glassware and crockery may be broken. Hanging pictures knock against the wall. Open doors may swing. Cupboard doors secured by magnetic catches may open. Pendulum clocks stop, start, or change rate.
    Structures :
Some large display windows cracked. A few earthenware toilet fixtures cracked.
    MMI VI (Strong shaking) ?
People Felt by all. People and animals alarmed. Many run outside. Difficulty experienced in walking steadily.
    Fittings :
Objects fall from shelves. Pictures fall from walls. Some furniture moved on smooth floors, some unsecured free-standing fireplaces moved. Glassware and crockery broken. Very unstable furniture overturned. Small church and school bells ring. Appliances move on bench or table tops. Filing cabinets or "easy glide" drawers may open (or shut).
    Structures :
Slight damage to buildings with low standard. Some stucco or cement plaster falls. Large display windows broken. Damage to a few weak domestic chimneys, some may fall.
    Environment :
Trees and bushes shake, or are heard to rustle. Loose material may be dislodged from sloping ground, e.g. existing slides, talus slopes, shingle slides.
MMI VII (Very strong shaking) ?
    People
General alarm. Difficulty experienced in standing. Noticed by motorcar drivers who may stop.
    Fittings :
Large bells ring. Furniture moves on smooth floors, may move on carpeted floors. Substantial damage to fragile contents of buildings.
    Structures :
Unreinforced stone and brick walls cracked. Low standard buildings cracked with some minor masonry falls. A few instances of damage to buildings of ordinary workmanship. Unbraced parapets, unbraced brick gables, and architectural ornaments fall. Roofing tiles, especially ridge tiles may be dislodged. Many unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, often falling from roof-line. Water tanks Type I burst. A few instances of damage to brick veneers and plaster or cement-based linings. Unrestrained water cylinders (hot-water cylinders) may move and leak. Some common windows cracked. Suspended ceilings damaged.
    Environment :
Water made turbid by stirred up mud. Small slides such as falls of sand and gravel banks, and small rock-falls from steep slopes and cuttings. Instances of settlement of unconsolidated or wet, or weak soils. Some fine cracks appear in sloping ground. A few instances of liquefaction (i.e. small water and sand ejections).
    MMI VIII (Severe shaking) ?
People Alarm may approach panic. Steering of motorcars greatly affected. Structures : Low standard buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. ordinary workmanship buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged in some cases. A few instances of damage to buildings and bridges designed and built to resist earthquakes. Monuments and pre-1976 elevated tanks and factory stacks twisted or brought down. Some pre-1965 infill masonry panels damaged. A few post-1980 brick veneers damaged. Decayed timber piles of houses damaged. Houses not secured to foundations may move. Most unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, some below roof-line, many brought down. Environment : Cracks appear on steep slopes and in wet ground. Small to moderate slides in roadside cuttings and unsupported excavations. Small water and sand ejections and localized lateral spreading adjacent to streams, canals, lakes, etc.
    MMI IX (Violent shaking) ?
Structures Many low standard buildings destroyed. Ordinary workmanship buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. Buildings and bridges designed and built to resist earthquakes damaged in some cases, some with flexible frames seriously damaged. Damage or permanent distortion to some buildings and bridges, designed and built to normal use standards. Houses not secured to foundations shifted off. Brick veneers fall and expose frames. Environment : Cracking of ground conspicuous. Landsliding general on steep slopes. Liquefaction effects intensified and more widespread, with large lateral spreading and flow sliding adjacent to streams, canals, lakes, etc.
