  • Houston - bed shook extremely lightly for a few seconds.
  • Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca - We heard the rumbling about 2 seconds before a trepidatory movement was noticeable then it grew more intense and it became oscillatory the zenith lasted for about 15 seconds then it started to die down in total it was about 50 seconds.

  • San Crisanto - Furniture, doors and windows shaking for about 30-45 seconds.

  • Belize City - Lasted for about fifteen seconds. Don't think there was any structural damage however it is still night here. Will know more in the morning
  • Belize City - Felt like 30 seconds or little more.
  • Garland - Was woken up by it. Lasted for at least 15 seconds
  • Valley of Peace - Light shaking
  • Mexico City - Tall furniture in my 12th floor apartment fell over.
  • Guatemala City - On 9th floor of hotel. Moderate shaking. No damage to hotel.
  • Ambergris Caye - Just enough to shake the house and make all the neighbourhood dogs bark like crazy.
  • San Pedro Sula - On the second floor of a brick building. I felt the bed move for a few seconds. Maybe 5 or 6. A friend of mine wrote to see if I felt it, too.
  • Spanish Lookout - 3-5 minutes
  • Mexico city - Felt long--40 seconds?
  • Austin - About a minute. Twice, with a break. No damage.
  • Belmopan - Lasted about 30 seconds, no damage. Almost wondered if I was imagining it until I saw other reports
  • Caye Caulker - Ich habe das Erdbeben gut fühlen können. Die Erde hat sicherlich über 2min lang gebebt.
  • Lake atitlan - No damage. Shaking was strong and felt like the whole room shook for 30 seconds
  • Hondo - I felt it for a brief moment.
  • Mexico city - Strong shaking lasted about 45 seconds, house is fine no damage. Saw electricity flashes out my window
  • La Libertad - No damage. Duration: more than 1 minute. P wave.
  • Mexico City - I was in bed at home on the third floor when I felt light shaking at approx 23.40 which become more marked. Guests in other rooms were woken up by shaking. I went downstairs to the kitchen and the ceiling light was swinging. Episode lasted between 1-2 mins.
  • Mexico City - About less than a minute. Furnature fell over and all the chickens are loose
  • Belize City - The shaking woke me from sleeping and the building was clearly swaying. However, no damage seen around me. The sea seemed uneffected.
  • atitlan - Moderate shaking
  • Oaxaca - Die Leitungen auf der Straße haben gewackelt. Es war deutlich spürbar.
  • Cozumel - Strange mattress vibrating really hard
  • Cd de Mexico - muy fuerte temblor en zona norte de la cd de mexico muy prolongado arboles y postes de luz se movian con mucha fuerza
  • Tapachula - Getting ready to go to bed when it hit. Started slowly, and then built to strong shaking. I was on second floor and ran out to laundry area with open sky. Outside wall was visibly moving back and forth. Ran downstairs and out into back yard and watched the house shake. Must have lasted two minutes. Terrifying.
  • Veracruz - No damage...lasted a good minute to a minute and a half. Made me feel dizzy.
  • Merida - Felt it in Yucatan, very light shaking
  • Puerto morelos - Laying in our bed in the Oceans Coral Turquesa resort and our bed started shaking the water in the water bottles was moving, lasted about 1 to 3 minutes. No damage, just scared. We live in the states and we are here in pierto morelos on our honeymoon. Never experienced anything like this before
  • San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye - Lasted between 15-20 seconds. Was laying on the bed and felt it shaking. Went out on the varanda and could feel the house shaking lightly. Felt as it started slower and then it came slightly harder(how it felt to me)
  • Cancun - On the 3rd floor of the Presidente Intercontinental. The bed was shaking / felt like someone was pushing on one side of the bed, but I could not identify any other indications (no picture frame movement etc.) I knew it was an earthquake from having the same experience in San Francisco once. Felt like it lasted a long time.
  • ESTADO DE MEXICO - Strong shaking
  • Belize City - At first it felt very light. I wasn't quite sure that it was really a tremor. Then it intensified. I called all my family together and we stood in the doorway. We could see the power lines swaying and the gate was shaking back and forth. It felt like it lasted about 2 minutes. This is a new experience for us. It was a bit scary. I can only imagine what it felt like closer to the epicenter.
  • Puerto Escondido - Strong shaking
  • Mexico City - Began with moderate shaking that became strong. Objects from furniture fell down. Noises from the strcuture of the building were scaring. Outside a sort of electric storm due to electric transformers exploding leaving blackout zones. It felt like eternal.

  • Antigua - It's 11pm so too dark to see anything outdoors until the morning. I was at the computer and everything just started moving. It's a sick feeling that starts at your feet, feeling the whole earth vibratin and looking up to see lamps swaying... I woke everyone else up and we ran outdoors where the ground was still swaying and the house walls seemed to be moving. I'll never get used to these!
  • PETALCINGO chiapas - Entre 0.5 o 1 minuto
  • Oaxaca - Strong shaking
  • Mexico City - I was in bed, it felt strong and long. No damage in my home, worried because of the magnitude.
  • Belize - Weak shaking
  • Xalapa - 25 secondes
  • Mexico City - Around 50 seconds of intense movement, I heard a very loud noise far in the distance and all encompased with an electric storm, quite dramatic!

  • Mexico city - Strong movement whith an electrical storm with blue lightings and sounds.
  • Acapulco - 30 seconds
  • Antigua - Mild shaking but amount/distance of swaying was unnerving- had the immediate impression it was a big quake just not necessarily close. Overall lasted at least a minute, but seemed like it may have stopped at one point before starting again. No damage.
  • Jiutepec, Morelos - side to side strong swaying motion clearly felt but no visible structural damage

  • Puebla - shaking lasted quite a bit, over 3 minutes of it. Most sleepers woke up.
  • Caye Caulker - Timed it on my watch, it lasted 2 minutes 32 seconds. no damages
  • Mexico City - The windows started rattling. Turned off stove and got dressed, that's when I noticed my light fixtures swaying wildly. So I ran after my cat and got him into the pet carrier. Went back for my cellphone. Put on a pair of shoes and down two flights of stairs. The power lines still moved like jump ropes! This quake was definitely infer than 95 seconds. Back inside I noticed the fire extinguisher holder had broken and plates from my drying rack had fallen.
  • Puebla - bed was rocking back and forth, dizziness and nauseousness felt, house was swaying , went outside... lasted 2 min
  • Xalapa - It was really scary and long. About 3 minutes, perhaps. People out in the street. It felt more trepidatory than undulatory. No visible damage in my property.
  • Belize City - The shaking lasted for about 40 seconds. No property damage is visible and is not expected.
  • Cancun - I was standing up, and it felt like I was "dizzy" I saw the clothes swaying in the closet. I was at the JW Marriott.
  • Tulum - The concrete under our feet shook. Second one followed a couple of seconds later and was stronger. Neighbors felt it too and had windows rattle. Happened around 6 - 6:15 pm CDT
  • Punta Gorda, Belize - Pot fell off the shelf
  • Cancun - Estava arrumando minha mala por volta de 00:00, no sétimo andar, quando o abajur e o espelho começaram a tremer. Fiquei confusa, mas sabia que havia algo errado e sai do quarto na mesma hora. Haviam muitas pessoas nos corredores e evacuando o predio.
  • Puerto Escondido - Der Boden wackelte stark und man konnte die Plattentektonik hören. Das Beben dauerte geschätzt ungefähr 45 Sekunden an.

    MMI VI (Strong shaking) ?
    People Felt by all. People and animals alarmed. Many run outside. Difficulty experienced in walking steadily.
    Fittings :
    Objects fall from shelves. Pictures fall from walls. Some furniture moved on smooth floors, some unsecured free-standing fireplaces moved. Glassware and crockery broken. Very unstable furniture overturned. Small church and school bells ring. Appliances move on bench or table tops. Filing cabinets or "easy glide" drawers may open (or shut).
    Structures :
    Slight damage to buildings with low standard. Some stucco or cement plaster falls. Large display windows broken. Damage to a few weak domestic chimneys, some may fall.
    Environment :
    Trees and bushes shake, or are heard to rustle. Loose material may be dislodged from sloping ground, e.g. existing slides, talus slopes, shingle slides.
    MMI VII (Very strong shaking) ?
    People
    General alarm. Difficulty experienced in standing. Noticed by motorcar drivers who may stop.
    Fittings :
    Large bells ring. Furniture moves on smooth floors, may move on carpeted floors. Substantial damage to fragile contents of buildings.
    Structures :
    Unreinforced stone and brick walls cracked. Low standard buildings cracked with some minor masonry falls. A few instances of damage to buildings of ordinary workmanship. Unbraced parapets, unbraced brick gables, and architectural ornaments fall. Roofing tiles, especially ridge tiles may be dislodged. Many unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, often falling from roof-line. Water tanks Type I burst. A few instances of damage to brick veneers and plaster or cement-based linings. Unrestrained water cylinders (hot-water cylinders) may move and leak. Some common windows cracked. Suspended ceilings damaged.
    Environment :
    Water made turbid by stirred up mud. Small slides such as falls of sand and gravel banks, and small rock-falls from steep slopes and cuttings. Instances of settlement of unconsolidated or wet, or weak soils. Some fine cracks appear in sloping ground. A few instances of liquefaction (i.e. small water and sand ejections).
    MMI VIII (Severe shaking) ?
    People Alarm may approach panic. Steering of motorcars greatly affected. Structures : Low standard buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. ordinary workmanship buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged in some cases. A few instances of damage to buildings and bridges designed and built to resist earthquakes. Monuments and pre-1976 elevated tanks and factory stacks twisted or brought down. Some pre-1965 infill masonry panels damaged. A few post-1980 brick veneers damaged. Decayed timber piles of houses damaged. Houses not secured to foundations may move. Most unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, some below roof-line, many brought down. Environment : Cracks appear on steep slopes and in wet ground. Small to moderate slides in roadside cuttings and unsupported excavations. Small water and sand ejections and localized lateral spreading adjacent to streams, canals, lakes, etc.
    MMI IX (Violent shaking) ?
    Structures Many low standard buildings destroyed. Ordinary workmanship buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. Buildings and bridges designed and built to resist earthquakes damaged in some cases, some with flexible frames seriously damaged. Damage or permanent distortion to some buildings and bridges, designed and built to normal use standards. Houses not secured to foundations shifted off. Brick veneers fall and expose frames. Environment : Cracking of ground conspicuous. Landsliding general on steep slopes. Liquefaction effects intensified and more widespread, with large lateral spreading and flow sliding adjacent to streams, canals, lakes, etc.
