USGS Borrego Springs, California Jun 10 23:42 3.1 9 MAP I Felt It INFO
  • San Diego - I was getting to sleep in my hotel when I felt a vibration in my bed, like a water heater had turned on somewhere. Was starting to feel uncomfortable when it was followed by thumping, and I thought someone must have turned on loud bass music. Then the walls creaked like there was a strong wind outside, and that was followed by what seemed to be a rippling in the walls, as the room swayed like a tent in wind and I finally realized what was going on; it lasted maybe ten seconds, then it was over.

  • El Cajon - My daughter and I were visiting from New Jersey. At approximately 1 am, the bed violently shook waking us. I turned on the TV for an alert....NOTHING. My mom and my uncle slept through the entire event. I guess they are used to such events! I remained on alert for 3 hours awaiting after shocks. None occurred. The early AM news did report the earthquake finally!!!
  • Ontario - No damage. As matter a fact we are wondering if it was one.
  • Hermosa Beach - just a slight bolt
  • Fortna - My kitchen counter moved a bit.

  • Murrieta - shook my bed and woke me up from a sleep
  • Perris - Heard it coming, like wind noise and rumble and realized it was a tremor, strong enough to wake everybody up. First, one strong jolt, then strong shaking lasting about 20 seconds and then it died off. The windows were shaking but no damage to the house, nothing fell. It felt like a 3 point quake. The dogs heard it coming for they barked even before the first jolt. I was ready to get out of bed if it had felt stronger. Always waiting for "the big one" here in California.
  • Lakeside - No damage, gentle shaking, not worried (but perhaps I should have been)
  • Vista - It felt like the Marine's were practice bombing but at 1:09 AM Pacific Time. I always wondered if one was related to the other.

  • Palomar Mountain - Brief jolts or sways... Maybe lasted 3 seconds.

  • Chula Vista - Came from work and about 1:00 am felt my bed shake for 3 seconds real quick.
  • Laguna Niguel - I was awake, An Armoire with glass doors beside bed began rattling and vibrating. My cat was on a cat tree beside the armoire and in front of second story window, as the window began to rattle it sounded like hail was hitting the house. the cat shot off the cat tree as if catapulted and ran to the hallway scared to death. So i know he felt it , it only lasted for 30 sec
  • San Diego - Jolt waking us up at 0106 followed by north-south sliding about 5-7 seconds. Glasses rattled. No damage.

I am in the "Sage" area which is between Temecula and Hemet. Dog wanted outside and wouldnt come back into the house until 9 a.m. to eat.
  • Los Angeles, CA - It rolling rather than shaking, like a sense of vertigo. It seemed to go on for almost a minute. I thought it might have been abig earthquake some distance away as opposed to a magnitude 3 nearby. Although it was "mild" it was distinctly unpleasant and disconcerting, and I speak as a 60-year resident of Los Angeles.

Kind of slid around for a minute. My dogs barked immediately. Never felt in danger. Just rode it out and calmed the dogs down.
  • El Cajon - My property was not damaged but I did feel it and it was strong enough even down in El Cajon San Diego
  • Poway, CA - I was sleeping on the couch when my chihuahua started barking. Then I felt a strange mild shaking sensation for about 3 seconds. Nothing was damaged, and I don't recall anything rattling. My clock read 1:07 AM. I didn't feel any aftershocks, and my dog didn't bark to alert me of any.
  • Indian Wells - No known damage. Items fell from shelf. It felt like a bomb went off. I was awakened from sleep and though quite used to earthquakes, this one felt more violent than the usual rolling quakes. I went thru Northridge quake of 1994, 3 miles from epicenter. This quake last night still rattled me.
  • Valley Center - No damage. Woke us up with an extremely loud boom sound and also a whirling sound. We didn't know if it was an earthquake, a sonic boom or a helicopter that was right over the house and close. Very different experience than I have felt in the past.
  • Valley Village - Gentle rolling for about 3 mins. NO damage.

  • Lake Forest, CA - I woke up to what I thought was the headboard in the apartment next door banging against the wall. Didn't learn of it until the morning news.
  • Mountain Center - Frightening!
  • Huntington Beach - the area where I live, between Beach Bl and the Bolsa Chica wetlands and about a mile from the ocean, seems to shake or roll very little during these events. I'm kind of dreading something like this on the Newport/Inglewood fault line. I think I live right on that.
  • Escondido - Woke me up,looked at clock which said 1:06am. No damage Shook for about 30 seconds.
  • San Clemente - No property damage but the shaking was severe enough to wake me up. The whole house rocked back and forth for at least 30 to 45 seconds. Nothing broke in the home, but the swaying of the home surprised me as it rocked back and forth for the duration of the quake.

  • Apple Valley, CA - No property damage; shaking lasted around 3-5 seconds and seemed pretty strong
  • Indio - It began around 1AM. Rolling, my family and I were up stairs asleep. I woke up very dizzy, they stayed asleep. The house swayed slightly. It was a tiny bit scary..but ended after about a minute or two. No damage. Nothing fell. However I know when aftershocks happen, because I get the same dizzy spells. That's the worst part about it. Just a reminder to be ready, never know what could happen. Buy water & nonperishable foods.
  • Idyllwild - woke up because of the noise and strong shaking, several seconds. Nothing fell from the wall, though.
  • Carlsbad, CA - In a hotel room, trying to fall asleep. Suddenly noticed the floor-to-ceiling drapes moving back and forth. Thought maybe an intruder had jumped on the balcony and was trying to get in the door! Being a tourist from the East Coast, I didn't realize what it was until I heard about the earthquake on the news the next day.
  • Newbury Park - No damage

  • Thousand Oaks - Seemed to be a rolling movement.
  • Tucson, AZ. 85736 - 11761 S Cherokee Ln Lot 1 40 miles w/sw of Tucson, AZ. 85736. Average of once a month does our houses shake from roaring booms. We used to say, "There goes another methlab all blown to pieces". But feeling the booms & our house shaking on or about the first 3 to 5 days of each month, makes us now think more realistically i.e... a meteor, a sonicboom, a US AIRFORCE jets chasing out unwanted visitors, or a methlab? Thanx 4 letting me share. Looking 4wrd to hearing back from you soon??? Thnx, Mark
