  • Grass Valley - Very light
  • Grass Valley - approx. 10:19 p.m.~Long moderate shaking stated rattling dishes & pictures on the wall~then subsiding, only to continue with a light shaking~My little 8 year old nephew, who is sleeping over for the night, came out of the guest room saying~"Auntie my bed keeps shaking!"
  • westport CA - Nothing disturbed. There were (as would be expected in a larger quake at a distance) two phases: A shorter shaking followed by a longer shuddering. The shaking was prolonged-- probably over 5 seconds. And I could distinguish likely direction from the offshore west. My dog looked very surprised.

  • Ferndale, CA. - At 10:18 p.m. it hit hard, and what felt like forever. In reality I'd venture a guess it lasted for 30 seconds, then came the aftershocks. I live in a 127 yo house. The walls went from side to side with great intensity, it was rocking 3 ft . That's the strongest earthquake I've felt since 1994. Luckily, nothing in the house fell over. Grand Father clock stayed up right, and nothing came off the shelves. Original being from Nebraska, it was pretty scary. Then, I laughed.

Then we discussed it while it was happening and watched various things slightly move: the leaves on our fake plant, our hats hanging on the wall, the curtains... but it wasn't powerful enough to move much else. We felt it for about a minute or slightly longer.

Useful information to read this daily earthquake list
The INFO link behind earthquakes is showing additional information and a map with older seismicity in the epicenter area.
The multi-source approach has been setup to compare values as seismology is not an exact science and needs a lot of calculations. The reference for the time zone is UTC (Coordinated Universal Time, also called GMT). Color explanation if we add some details above the list : green color = NOT dangerous for damage or injuries, orange color = MODERATE risk for damage or injuries, red color = CONSIDERABLE risk for damage or injuries

    Structures :
Slight damage to buildings with low standard. Some stucco or cement plaster falls. Large display windows broken. Damage to a few weak domestic chimneys, some may fall.
    Environment :
Trees and bushes shake, or are heard to rustle. Loose material may be dislodged from sloping ground, e.g. existing slides, talus slopes, shingle slides.
MMI VII (Very strong shaking) ?
General alarm. Difficulty experienced in standing. Noticed by motorcar drivers who may stop.
    Fittings :
Large bells ring. Furniture moves on smooth floors, may move on carpeted floors. Substantial damage to fragile contents of buildings.

Unreinforced stone and brick walls cracked. Low standard buildings cracked with some minor masonry falls. A few instances of damage to buildings of ordinary workmanship. Unbraced parapets, unbraced brick gables, and architectural ornaments fall. Roofing tiles, especially ridge tiles may be dislodged. Many unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, often falling from roof-line. Water tanks Type I burst. A few instances of damage to brick veneers and plaster or cement-based linings. Most unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, some below roof-line, many brought down. Environment : Cracks appear on steep slopes and in wet ground. Small to moderate slides in roadside cuttings and unsupported excavations. Small water and sand ejections and localized lateral spreading adjacent to streams, canals, lakes, etc.
    MMI IX (Violent shaking) ?
Structures Many low standard buildings destroyed. Ordinary workmanship buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged, some with partial collapse.
