Nothing serious, electricity (tv, ac, light) not bothered but it wasn't short, shaking didn't stop for at least 1 minute. Smaller earthquake this morning only half woke me up, familie's fear to run in here to wake me up did. These are small earthquakes, if it was worse the electricity would've shut off &/or there would be alerts on tv
  • Gardena - I was sitting in my room when i felt the ground shake

  • Studio City - Was watching the olympics with a friend when the building started shaking. Felt like it lasted a bit. We sat back & held onto the furniture in case it got worse.

  • Newbury Park, CA - I had just gone to bed around 11pm and felt shaking for about 3-4 seconds. Also, just wanted to mention. Don't know if its related but I have heard of these types of things preceding an earthquake. I was on the beach in Ventura yesterday (8-7-12) and heard a low frequency booming pulse (like a heartbeat) coming from out in the ocean. Heard it twice...just before 12:45 pm for about 3-4 minutes and again at 1pm for 3-4 minutes. not waves/not train/not subwoofer, came from the ocean. interesting.

  • Fallbrook West of HWY 15 - I felt one small shake around midnight and a much stronger multiple shaking this morning 8/8/12. Left no doubt that it was an earthquake. I live on the second floor and there are long wood spans for underneath floor support, so it picks up vibration too well!

    People :
Felt by persons at rest, on upper floors or favorably placed.
    MMI III (Weak shaking) ?
    People :
Felt indoors; hanging objects may swing, vibration similar to passing of light trucks, duration may be estimated, may not be recognized as an earthquake.
    MMI IV (Light shaking) ?
    People :
Generally noticed indoors but not outside. Light sleepers may be awakened. Vibration may be likened to the passing of heavy traffic, or to the jolt of a heavy object falling or striking the building.
    Fittings :
Doors and windows rattle. Glassware and crockery rattle. Liquids in open vessels may be slightly disturbed. Standing motorcars may rock.

Slight damage to buildings with low standard. Some stucco or cement plaster falls. Large display windows broken. Damage to a few weak domestic chimneys, some may fall.
    Environment :
Trees and bushes shake, or are heard to rustle. Loose material may be dislodged from sloping ground, e.g. existing slides, talus slopes, shingle slides.
MMI VII (Very strong shaking) ?
General alarm. Difficulty experienced in standing. Noticed by motorcar drivers who may stop.
    Fittings :
Large bells ring. Furniture moves on smooth floors, may move on carpeted floors. Substantial damage to fragile contents of buildings.
    Structures :
Unreinforced stone and brick walls cracked. Low standard buildings cracked with some minor masonry falls. A few instances of damage to buildings of ordinary workmanship. Unbraced parapets, unbraced brick gables, and architectural ornaments fall. Roofing tiles, especially ridge tiles may be dislodged. Water made turbid by stirred up mud. Small slides such as falls of sand and gravel banks, and small rock-falls from steep slopes and cuttings. Instances of settlement of unconsolidated or wet, or weak soils. Some fine cracks appear in sloping ground. A few instances of liquefaction (i.e. small water and sand ejections).

Some pre-1965 infill masonry panels damaged. A few post-1980 brick veneers damaged. Decayed timber piles of houses damaged. Houses not secured to foundations may move. Most unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, some below roof-line, many brought down. Environment : Cracks appear on steep slopes and in wet ground. Small to moderate slides in roadside cuttings and unsupported excavations. Small water and sand ejections and localized lateral spreading adjacent to streams, canals, lakes, etc.
    MMI IX (Violent shaking) ?
Structures Many low standard buildings destroyed. Ordinary workmanship buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. 1. darren W says:

okay so I may just be paranoid or something like that, but heres the deal. I found this guy that said he is going to give a 104 hour warning for california and now all the sudden there are 5+ earthquakes in california today. is this normal? please answer without smart comments.

      • Armand Vervaeck says:

Nobody on this planet can predict the timing of an earthquake and the location where it will happen.

      • darren W says:

okay but is it normal for 5 or more earthquakes in a matter of hours for the Anahiem area. I mean I know california is an earthquake zone but what is normal for them?

      • Armand Vervaeck says:

Yes this is normal and happens all over the world in earthquake zones. Every earthquake may be followed by numerous aftershocks which are normally weaker than the mainshock but may be in some cases even contain a stronger one. In todays case 2 had the same Magnitude and the others are weaker. You may expect some more weak aftershocks the following hours or even days. I am sorry to tell that. In Van, Turkey they had thousands of aftershocks and literally hundreds where felt by the people. Earthquakes are horrible as you never know how long they will last and how powerful they will be. Hope it will calm down soon.

      • darren W says:

thank you for the great answer.!
