Extremely shallow moderate earthquake in Northern Sumatra. We call this earthquake moderately dangerous only for the reason that the area of the epicenter will be probably a wilderness area. If below a populated area, we would call it extremely dangerous.
Close to the villages Bubon, Silih Nara, Woyla and Ketol.

Strong  shallow coastal aftershock approx. 10 km out in the sea. The epicenter of this aftershock is almost on the same location than the first one 4 hours ago. The shock will have been weakened by the sea location.

Christchurch :  5.5 woke us up with violent shaking, power out in some suburbs, cupboards and wardrobe doors open, animals scared. Geonet has reported two earthquakes striking at 5.45am - 12 seconds apart - both of similar magnitude.

Christchurch : Good shake five mins ago,rattled the house, dogs run outside, probably a 5, small quick aftershock 2 minutes later, had a 4 about four hours ago

Very strong but very deep earthquake with an hypocenter (focal depth) in the hot solid mantle of the earth. Based on calculations of the seismological centers, only a weak shaking will have been felt in a very wide area. The epicenter was located in between a lot of submarine volcanoes (see link map).
