  • pearisburg - Couple seconds of shaking
  • Ballard, WV - A few seconds of shaking.
  • Rich Creek VA - Lasted for a minute to two minutes. Felt like a car had hit the house.
  • Pearisburg - It had a strong distinct sound which I've never experienced with greater magnitude quakes. It was like a big thump sounded on the roof of Giles High School rather like the sound when air conditioning units were being placed on the building during the renovation in the early 2000s. In the late sixties, I remember a quieter greater magnitude quake which moved the couch in my parents home at Newport, when my family, (five) were sitting on it watching television. That was my first quake.
  • Peterstown - Heard a noise sounded like a bomb going off whole house shook and windows rattled lasted all of 5 seconds.
  • Pearisburg, VA - lasted for about 3 seconds. whole house shook, no major damage.
  • Radford Virginia - Like 3-5 seconds
  • Dublin VA - I felt 2 separate shakes, heard nothing,
  • Athens, WV - There was a slight boom sound and the whole house did one big shake and rattle for about 1 second. Thought there was an explosion nearby, but it was an earthquake
  • Alderson - I was on the second floor of our house, and our house shook for about one or two seconds. I could feel it and hear it. Our house shook about five times. There was more time between the first and second shake than the following shakes. As far as I recall the first shake or the first two shakes were the strongest and the last one or two shakes were the weakest. I'm not aware of any damage.
  • Greenville, WV - Light shaking
  • Pembroke , VA - Sounded like a semi driving by. Outfitters Gifts hop building shook for a few seconds.
  • Rock WV - My whole house shook about a minute
  • Radford - All of my windows rattled and I felt a vibration on my living room floor .It lasted about 4 or 5 seconds
  • Blacksburg, VA - Mild shaking as would happen if heavy objects were dropped on deck. House shook a couple times mildly over <10 sec.
  • Radford - I was in class; it lasted about three seconds and was very weak. I didn't know what it was so I just ignored it and kept taking notes. At the end of class a few classmates said that it was an earthquake!
  • Radford - I was sitting in a desk when I felt light shaking. It just felt like someone behind me was pushing their seat into mine
  • Lindside, WV - Loud bang, shake, and it was over.
  • Salem, VA 24153 - Was sitting on the sofa reading when, at approximately 1:32 pm on Sept. 13, 2017, the lampshade started shaking as well as the items on the side table (pen, remote control, etc.). Shaking lasted about 3-5 seconds. Have not noticed any damage yet.
  • Ronceverte - I wondered what a co-worker had done to cause the "slam" and make the building shake.
  • Dublin, VA - I experienced strong shaking that only lasted for a couple of seconds combined with a loud thud. Similar to a tree falling on my roof or someone jumping next to me.
  • greenville - I felt shaking and was on phone with my daughter who lives in Durham N.C. I became afraid and told her i felt shaking and it had to be an earthquake. I ran to my door looked out, came back to the phone.Minutes later again and i knew that was what it was. She laughed . Next day i saw the article about the Va. quake ans sent it to her.
