(Strong) Moderate earthquake close to the Cuba coast - initially far overestimated

Earthquake overview : At 4:43 AM local Cuba time a very strong earthquake struck the area 30 km out of the Belic, Caoba area (Parque Nacional Desembarco del Gramna). After a number of hours it became clear that the initial magnitude was far overestimated (Mw 6.0). It was revised by USGS to 5.1 and the Cuban Seismological service has reported a 4.5 magnitude. A world of difference in potential danger.

FINAL UPDATE 14:21 UTC : We really do not know what happened here but the magnitude which was preliminary set at 6.0 was recorded in Cuba as a 4.5 earthquake, a world of difference. After screening our sources, we are happy to report that this earthquake made NO structural damage, injuries or casualties.

IMPORTANT UPDATE : In the meantime USGS has recalculated the data and comes out with a magnitude of 5.1 at a depth of 5 km (a huge difference).

IMPORTANT UPDATE : Following the Cuban Seismological service (CENIAS) the earthquake had only a magnitude of 4.5 at a depth of 15 km. The Cuban press insists that they have invested a lot of money in new seismic instrumentation, indirectly telling us that they can be trusted!
This earthquake was reported by USGS but NOT by EMSC. GFZ had a magnitude of 5.4 @ a depth of 27 km.

Update 14:07 UTC : According to the Cuban Civil Defense, no damage or injuries have been recorded so far (a couple hours after the earthquake struck - we have no new reports since then)

Update : The earthquake has been well felt among others in Niquero, Bartolome Maso and Bayamo.

Update : Jamaica must have felt the same earthquake as a weak shaking, but probably due to the nightly hour and the weak shaking only few people will have been awakened.

Update : A very good sign is that we haven't received any I Have Felt It report out of Cuba (it was of course in the middle of their night)

Update : Closest land area to the epicenter (approx. 30 km) is Parque Nacional Desembarco del Gramna (Cuba)

Update : based on our own data and historical earthquakes in this area, we  do not expect major damage or injuries

Update : NO tsunami warning or advisory

Update : following the theoretical calculations of USGS 151,000 people will experience a moderate shaking only and 452,000 people a light shaking
