Moderately dangerous shallow earthquake.
Due to the very shallow hypocenter some damage may be possible.
There are reports of rockslides along a highway following the quake.
This earthquake follows two smaller quakes that hit the area earlier in the day:
- a magnitude 4.6 quake was recorded at 5:30 p.m. and a magnitude 2.9 quake just before 8 a.m.

UPDATE 20:36 UTC : BMKG, the (very reliable) Indonesian seismological service reports a magnitude of 6.2 at a depth of only 10 km (but below the sea).  Luckily NO tsunami risk however.
Moderately dangerous earthquake approx. 50 km out of the Sumatra and Java coast
Max. predicted theoretical shaking is V MMI (moderate shaking).
Additionally we do not see many Indonesian people coming on line which means that they are not very much concerned.
897 people have felt a V MMI, 220,000 people will experience a light shaking and 600,000 people a weak shaking.
On 01/06/1980 had a similar earthquake measuring 6 magnitude at only 47 km from the current epicenter. There were NO shaking deaths at that time.

Shallow Moderately dangerous earthquake with max. MMI V,  just 27 km WSW of Trinidad, Colorado
787,000 people have felt moderate shaking of MMI V and 11,000 a light shaking of MMI IV
people of Trinidad(9,000) have experienced a light shaking and Raton( 7,000) a weak shaking
A magnitude 5.0 earthquake 14 km south of this one struck the United States on August 10, 2005 (UTC), with estimated population exposures of 4,000 at intensity V and 19,000 at intensity IV but there was no any fatalities reported at that time.

    soit pres de 2h au nord des lignes des États-Unis, cela a durée pres de 30 secondes, on aurait dit que la maison flottais sur l'eau avec de légère vagues.
