UPDATE 10:12 UTC : So far we have not yet a report from the direct epicenter area. We do expect based on the experience reports from Dar Es Salaam that also the coastal epicenter area will not be damaged. Another uncertain aspect is the exact location of the epicenter (sometimes an error of 10 to 30 km!), which might be more out in the sea and could explain the limited shaking we could trace so far.

Felt Reports as received by Earthquake-Report.com :
Dar Es Salaam : I am on the 9th floor of one of the buildings in Dar es Salaam.  I together with several of my fellow staff felt a light wave. However some of the other staff when we asked them said they did not feel anything. In fact those who did not feel anything made fun of us until this article was posted on your website.
Dar Es Salaam : I have been thru a earthquake of 8.1 magnitude in Gujarat (India) and hence i immediately felt the swaying/cradling twice which were just seconds apart (Light shaking checked)

So far no after shocks have been felt and everything feel normal. (Light shaking checked)

Dar Es Salaam : I was on the 5th floor of one of the buildings in Dar es Salaam, Azikiwe street at the city center. I felt some light shaking of my body, only to realize later that everything around me was shaking as well. I had headphones on, so I didnt feel the sounds but I could see the furniture shake a bit. The building has several offices and most of the staff ran towards the gate. A few staff says they did not feel it but the majority did. The tremor lasted for about 50 seconds to one minute

UPDATE 09:52 UTC : After some more calls to the Dar Es Salaam area we could NOT detect any serious shaking, although a 4.8 magnitude earthquake should have been noticed very well at 50 km distance. We are currently looking for more details.

UPDATE 09:48 UTC : After calling a number of places in Dar Es Salaam (approx. 50 km from the epicenter), the people we talked too had or not felt any shaking or the shaking was only felt on the upper floors.

  1. Good to hear that only minor reports are coming in and nothing more serious

    • Armand Vervaeck says:

We have no bad news but NO news at all, which could mean a very positive signal like you say. Let us hope it.

  2. I was in my office desk reading when I felt the chair shaking, First I thought it could be caused by the construction site in the neighbourhood but it was different, it went on for 3 seconds.. Some of my collegues felt it most of them didn't
