  1. You may not think the 4.1 earthquake in Idaho is not dangerous, but coupled with the 4.3 near Jackson Wyoming, plus the several others near Jackson in the past several months, these are around the edges of the deeper mantle plume for Yellowstone. I am living in SLC Utah, and watching these closely. As the 10 years of uplift could indicate waking up of the volcano, so could these earthquakes outside of the park, but close enough to indicate issues in the fault systems nearby and potential magma movement into the cracks or faults nearby as well.

    • Armand Vervaeck says

Erica, We label earthquakes as "not dangerous" based on potential immediate damage. Being a multiple time visitor to Yellowstone and even Jackson Wyoming, i have the same feeling on the medium to long term. But we know that the Yellowstone caldera is one of the most measured volcano's in the world, i am convinced that USGS and other instances will trigger an immediate alert if something suspicious in going on. Yesterday's Idaho quake was in a different area than the many Jackson / Teton area quakes from a couple of months ago.
