Unconfirmed earthquake in Guangdong area, China
We could not obtain more details based on the reporting of USGS and EMSC, but have traced a small earthquake on the Chinese seismographs (which afterwards could not be linked to a listed Chinese earthquake).

Based on our experience of another weak earthquake in the same area a couple of months ago, this heavily populated part of China (Guangzhou and Hong Kong) generates a lot of scared people during a weak shaking.
Update 13:39 UTC :
the marquee banner on the EMSC site mentioning the many incoming Felt reports has disappeared from the screen and no notifications have been made by USGS and EMSC so far.
Seismographs in China do not reveal an earthquake (refreshing time 30 minutes).
The seismograph from Qiongzhong is located in the province where the Felt reports came from. Click here to see this LIVE seismogram

Update 14:30 UTC :
The Qiongzhong seismogram reveals a weak magnitude earthquake approx. 4 hours ago.
Update 14:39 UTC : Guangdong province in China is heavily populated. Nearly 70,000,000 people are living in this province.
Update 15:09 UTC : No confirmation of the earthquake yet. We continue the search for more data.
Update 17:08 UTC : NAfter screening a lot of additional sources within China, we have to conclude that even a weak earthquake did not occur on February 20.  Earthquake-Report brings you immediate reporting on events. The risk of immediate reporting  is that some false alerts are possible from time to time.
