UPDATE 4:15 PM UTC : JMA  (Japan) reported a magnitude of 5.3 at a depth of 50 km.  Earthquake-Report always gives as much data as possible as this often explains the way people are experiencing the earthquake.  The difference in depth at this magnitude explains 2 elements :
a) the earthquake is felt several hundreds of km from the epicenter  (the Felt radius increases with the bigger depth)
b) the shaking is usually less severe with a depth of 50 km (intermediate depth) than with a shallow depth of 28 km.

UPDATE 3:51 PM UTC : Japanese people are working very well together with their Meteorological Services. If they feel an earthquake, almost immediately thereafter a Felt report is filled in.
Click on the link to see all the Felt information collected from Japanese people after this earthquake.
You will notice that this earthquake was felt in about 50% of Honshu island (millions of people).

Motooka, Ookuma, Niiyama, Futabachō Namie. There is a slight chance of damage in these cities/towns.

JMA 4 intensity explanation - Many people are frightened. Some people try to escape from danger. Most sleeping people awake. Hanging objects swing considerably and dishes in a cupboard rattle. Unstable ornaments fall occasionally. Electric wires swing considerably. People walking on a street and some people driving automobiles notice the tremor.
IV JMA can be compared with a VI MMI shaking = strong shaking
