Hypocenter in the mantle of the earth. Nobody will feel it.

M 4.9      2010/09/05 20:33     Depth 71.4 km      NEW BRITAIN REGION, PAPUA NEW GUINEA
Moderate relatively deep earthquake very near the following villages : Sieigit, Dulagoa, Hulem and Utkihu

M 5.4       2010/09/05       17:34     Depth 35.0 km     HALMAHERA, INDONESIA
Dangerous shallow earthquake with an epicenter right under Pulau Bacan, an island with 3 volcanoes.
Labuha, a small port town is only a few kilometers away from the epicenter (if confirmed afwterwards).
If the epicenter will be confirmed, Labuha will be at risk.  Although we have no exact number of the Labuha population, the satellite image gives a clue it must be at least several thousand.

Moderate earthquake near a subduction trench at a safe distance from the tiny Kermadec Islands archipelago

A moderate earthquake, but almost on the beaches of Melva, Magam and Olal on the Vanuatu island of Ambrym. Look at the 2 beautiful volcano craters on this island

An epicenter 165 km from Coos Bay. Same area had a number of similar earthquakes the last several weeks

  1. Kathleen,

    We do follow the incoming feeds if USGS. They normally list most earthquakes M 4.5 or more, but the M 5.2 was not among them.
    We have now added on our September 4 earthquake list (UTC time).
    A mercalli 3 or 4 is possible with that magnitude, however the Central Weather Bureau has only noted a Mercalli 1 -

    I felt an earthquake here in Taipei, last night. It felt like about a 3 or4. I have been in a number of quakes in California and her in Taipei so I think i have a pretty good sense of how big they feel.

    Do you know anything about a quake here. I know it was one but did not see info on it.
