Greece “ M 4.6 “ Moderate and shallow earthquake hit Thessaloniki area

Earthquake Report comment :
Greece is very active  with a number of moderate earthquakes the last couple of days.  Only a couple of hours after a similar earthquake near Crete, a shallow quake struck with an epicenter at only 60 km from Thessaloniki. 15 minutes after the first quake a strong aftershock of M 4.5 struck in the same area near the village of Neochari.

On June 20, 1978 a violent earthquake hit the Thessaloniki area. 50 persons were killed, many injured. There was also considerable damage in the Thessaloniki area. The quake was felt throughout Bulgaria and in southern Yugoslavia. A scientific detailed study of this earthquake was made by Ionnis Psycharis.
