Chile “ M 5.2 “ Moderate earthquake near Iquique

At this point people reported a light to moderate shaking in Iquique.
A similar earthquake (M 5.0) at a slightly bigger depth occurred in the same area on August 3 at 1:29 AM

Iquique has a growing population of more than 227,000.
Iquique is surrounded by a very active fault line which is triggering regular powerful earthquakes.
The city was totally demolished by earthquakes in 1868 and 1877.
The most recent major earthquake occurred on June 13, 2005 and had a Magnitude of 7.9 !
Iquique is located in Northern Chile, one of the richest copper mine areas in the world.  Copper mining, mainly in Quebrada Blanca, Cerro Colorado, and Doña Inés de Collahuasí, is an important industry in Iquique.
