Update 05:39 UTC : There have been various reports of water main and gas main leaks possibly caused by the quake in La Habra, Fullerton and La Mirada. There have also been some scattered but limited power outages.

Update 05:34 UTC : At a home in San Dimas, dozens of pictures flew off walls, a ladder fell and dented a car in garage and medicine cabinets flew open and emptied out. Our opinion : This family was NOT prepared enough. In earthquake areas all hanging and standing objects should be well fixed!
This is a major event but is not a a very strong earthquake, in our terms only a moderate earthquake, so please fix heavy objects in the houses and know what to fo when it happens.

Structures : Low standard buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. ordinary workmanship buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged in some cases. Some pre-1965 infill masonry panels damaged. A few post-1980 brick veneers damaged. Decayed timber piles of houses damaged. Houses not secured to foundations may move. Most unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, some below roof-line, many brought down. Environment : Cracks appear on steep slopes and in wet ground. Small to moderate slides in roadside cuttings and unsupported excavations. Small water and sand ejections and localized lateral spreading adjacent to streams, canals, lakes, etc.
    MMI IX (Violent shaking) ?
Structures Many low standard buildings destroyed. Ordinary workmanship buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. Buildings and bridges designed and built to resist earthquakes damaged in some cases, some with flexible frames seriously damaged. In northwest Brea, on third floor of my apt., felt the 3.6 Friday night....then the 5.1 an hour later SHOOK THE LIVING SHIT out of my place and lots of broken glass. The aftershocks are ENDLESS - and in Brea you can feel EVERY AFTERSHOCK, even the smallest one, because we're on Epicenter! Felt more like a 7.1 than a 5.1!!

Thanks Susan for telling us - So you can imagine what a M6.1 would do (10 times stronger!). Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Laying down for a nap and felt the bed shake for about 5 seconds.
Heard about Fullerton so I knew
It was an aftershock. Born and bred in earthquake country.
Been through a lot of rockers. 1971, 1993 north ridge.
