Earthquake-Report.com needs your skills

Because of our growing popularity, we urgently need volunteers (limited time activities per day/week/event) for the following tasks : earthquake article writer(s) (living in Asia, Pacific or Western USA), earthquake damage scanners (general AND language specific like Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, etc), earthquake data collector(s), social media specialist(s), Facebook Page Admin(s), volcano and landslide news scanners as well as a couple of other small tasks. Tell us what you think you can do and become a part of the best non-governmental earthquake information network in the world.

  • San Ramon - Felt strong shake around 10am.
  • San Ramon - More of a jolt. Enough to scare my granddaughter. No damage.
  • San Ramon - My whole apartment shook with this earthquake and I felt someone living top of me fell off or something ...must be 600lbs..anyways jars on counter top dropped and smashed.

  • San Ramon - Booming noise and felt like something hit the house
  • San Ramon, CA - Loud noise; two strong bolts; dog woke up barking; no damage
  • San Ramon - couple of picture frames fell down with a loud noise
  • Danville - NO DAMAGE NOTICED
  • San Ramon - I felt one quick jolt as if a car ran into the house.
  • San Ramon - The walls were shaking and the floor did too but it only lasted for a couple of seconds. It felt like someone fell from downstairs but from upstairs it felt like someone closed a door way too hard.
  • san ramon, ca. - very strong jolt.
  • Danville CA - A moderate jolt, but short lived. No damage, nothing fell.
  • San Ramon - I live about 2.3 mi from the center as the crow flies, only one jolt, no pre-courser events. No apparent damage. Very loud sound of metal to metal event, but have not found the items which showed the strike. Mainly up and down motion. Less that one second duration. Jack
  • Danville - Felt the floor shake, quake was brief but strong. No damage to home.
  • San Ramon - I was in the bathroom of a 3 story apartment. I'm on the third floor, and all of a sudden I feel a giant jump or something. I thought someone in another floor dropped a heavy object. It took me a second to realize it was an earthquake, but by then it was over. After that on my social networks and text messaging people are asking if anyone else felt an earthquake.
  • San Ramon - The whole building shook - no damage though. No aftershocks.
  • San Ramon, CA - rumbling then a loud bang
  • Danville - I strong jolt. No evident damage.
  • San Ramon - I have felt 4 earthquakes in San Ramon and all while I was in the same room. It sounded like a truck had hit the side of the building, then there was rumbling, less like an earthquake and more like a volcano. I lived at the foot of an active volcano in South America so this felt very similar.
  • Crow Canyon & Shoreline - Having felt 4 of the recent quakes in San Ramon, I could nearly predict the last 2 I felt cuz I got very dizzy right before the first 2. The last one I felt was the one around 9am and I woke up with that same dizzy feeling and felt a rise in air pressure, like when scuba diving. So I thought to myself, here comes another one, and boom..there it was. I remain dizzy only a few seconds after it's over.

    People :
Felt by persons at rest, on upper floors or favorably placed.
    MMI III (Weak shaking) ?
    People :
Felt indoors; hanging objects may swing, vibration similar to passing of light trucks, duration may be estimated, may not be recognized as an earthquake.
    MMI IV (Light shaking) ?

    Fittings :
Doors and windows rattle. Glassware and crockery rattle. Liquids in open vessels may be slightly disturbed. Standing motorcars may rock.

    People :
Generally felt outside, and by almost everyone indoors. Most sleepers awakened. A few people alarmed.

Slight damage to buildings with low standard. Some stucco or cement plaster falls. Large display windows broken. Damage to a few weak domestic chimneys, some may fall.
    Environment :
Trees and bushes shake, or are heard to rustle. Loose material may be dislodged from sloping ground, e.g. existing slides, talus slopes, shingle slides.
MMI VII (Very strong shaking) ?
    People
General alarm. Difficulty experienced in standing. Noticed by motorcar drivers who may stop.

    Structures :
Unreinforced stone and brick walls cracked. Low standard buildings cracked with some minor masonry falls. A few instances of damage to buildings of ordinary workmanship. Unbraced parapets, unbraced brick gables, and architectural ornaments fall. Roofing tiles, especially ridge tiles may be dislodged. Many unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, often falling from roof-line. Water tanks Type I burst. A few instances of damage to brick veneers and plaster or cement-based linings. Unrestrained water cylinders (hot-water cylinders) may move and leak. Some common windows cracked. Suspended ceilings damaged.
    Environment :
Water made turbid by stirred up mud. Small slides such as falls of sand and gravel banks, and small rock-falls from steep slopes and cuttings. Instances of settlement of unconsolidated or wet, or weak soils. Some fine cracks appear in sloping ground. A few instances of liquefaction (i.e. small water and sand ejections).
    MMI VIII (Severe shaking) ?
People Alarm may approach panic. Steering of motorcars greatly affected. Structures : Low standard buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. ordinary workmanship buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged in some cases. Some pre-1965 infill masonry panels damaged. A few post-1980 brick veneers damaged. Decayed timber piles of houses damaged. Houses not secured to foundations may move. Most unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, some below roof-line, many brought down. Environment : Cracks appear on steep slopes and in wet ground. Small to moderate slides in roadside cuttings and unsupported excavations. Small water and sand ejections and localized lateral spreading adjacent to streams, canals, lakes, etc.
    MMI IX (Violent shaking) ?
Structures Many low standard buildings destroyed. Ordinary workmanship buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. Buildings and bridges designed and built to resist earthquakes damaged in some cases, some with flexible frames seriously damaged.
