A moderate earthquake right on the subduction location made apartment buildings sway a little in Bali and Lombok.
The earthquake was not dangerous at all because of the distance from the epicenter to the island itself.
The current earthquakes are however a lot closer to the islands than those of a couple of months ago who’s epicenter where at a bigger distance from the islands.
On the second map below, one can see a number of other earthquakes with similar strength in 2012.
The earthquakes are generated because of one tectonic plate gliding below the other one. When the subducting plate gets a resistance it hangs for a while and when the stress gets too big, the hanging point breaks and generates an earthquake.
