Strong but deep earthquake 44km from Anchorage, Alaska
A strong 5.8 Magnitude earthquake at a depth of 50km struck 44km from Anchorage, Alaska (population- 380,000 people). The earthquake, if preliminary reports are confirmed, could had been felt as a IV-VI on the Mercalli scale (Light to Strong shaking), this means there can be minor damage around the area. We will update if more news comes.
The magnitude is not big enough to create a tsunami.
Update: Alaska Airlines says that there has been no damage to its buildings following this evening’s earthquake. There are no operational delays (from twitter).
Update: AP news reports that the earthquake knocked items off shelves around Anchorage, we expect this kind of minor damage (knocked items, broken windows, etc.) from this earthquake.
Update: Alaska Earthquake Information Center (AEIC) uses a formula to estimate the number and size of aftershocks, but it can’t predict when or where they will hit. AEIC said following the earthquake “expect 10 aftershocks at magnitude 4.7, 100 at 3.7, 1,000 at 2.7 and so on”.

Useful information to read this daily earthquake list
This earthquake list covers important earthquakes in the world.
If a more detailed page is present, the earthquake line will be linked to the detailed page.
For your comfort, we will provide in most cases a Google Satellite Map to give you an idea where the earthquake struck, which terrain it happened and if villages or cities are located in the immediate vicinity. The multi-source approach has been setup to compare values as seismology is not an exact science and needs a lot of calculations. The reference for the time zone is UTC (Coordinated Universal Time, also called GMT). Color explanation if we add some details above the list :
green color = NOT dangerous for damage or injuries
orange color = MODERATE risk for damage or injuries
red color = CONSIDERABLE risk for damage or injuries
