Hoax earthquake in Northern California !
It happens sometimes (luckily not too often) that earthquakes are deleted shortly after they have been listed. The earthquake was a M5.1 at a depth of 60 km. This earthquake, originated from USGS, was initially listed in this list, but we have deleted it to avoid bringing not reliable information.
Seismological agencies have to find the right balance in between quick reporting and double checking of data. Mostly we can see it at earthquake-report.com as we have patterns in visiting numbers in the site versus Magnitude and depth and geographical origin of the visitors.
Moderate earthquake below Taiwan
The earthquake struck at a shallow 20 km depth and only at 12 km from Hualien, a city with more than 100,000 inhabitants. Hualien county is often shaken by earthquakes. The quake was felt all over the northern part of Twain, including in Taipeh.
Massive very deep earthquake in the sea of Okhotsk
A Magnitude 7.7 (updated from 7.3 by USGS) earthquake hit the sea of Okhotsk 160 km from Poronaysk, Russia although it was a massive earthquake the depth of 625 km has decreased the shaking strongly, making it a IV on the Mercalli scale (light shaking) for a very wide area, no tsunami is possible because of the depth.
The earthquake has been felt as far as Japan!

Useful information to read this daily earthquake list
This earthquake list covers important earthquakes in the world.
If a more detailed page is present, the earthquake line will be linked to the detailed page.
For your comfort, we will provide in most cases a Google Satellite Map to give you an idea where the earthquake struck, which terrain it happened and if villages or cities are located in the immediate vicinity. The multi-source approach has been setup to compare values as seismology is not an exact science and needs a lot of calculations. The reference for the time zone is UTC (Coordinated Universal Time, also called GMT). Color explanation if we add some details above the list :
green color = NOT dangerous for damage or injuries
orange color = MODERATE risk for damage or injuries
red color = CONSIDERABLE risk for damage or injuries
QuakeSOS+ and QuakeSOS free are iPhone applications developed by Armand Vervaeck, the founder of Earthquake Report. The Application simplifies immediate group communication to friends and family members (with your exact GPS location) and is feeding the users with Earthquake Report news. The 0.99 US$ QuakeSOS+ version will support the activities of SOS Earthquakes.
