Volcano activity of July 24, 2012 – Etna, Sakurajima, El Hierro, Mount Pagan, Tungurahua, Batu Tara and Popocatepetl

This (almost) daily post intends to follow up the activity changes of volcanoes all over the world.

July 24, 2012 volcano activity

Bocca Nuevo vent from Etna volcano is still active and showed a few stronger bursts during the early morning hours (see seismogram and image)

El Hierro volcano (Canary Islands, Spain) reported 4 earthquakes today, this after many days of relative calm.

Tungarahua volcano Ecuador had a rather clear day and a strong ash cloud today. A nice image from the Ecuadorian volcano institute and the related seismogram are showing what happened.

There was another eruption of Sakurajima volcano today. Sakarajima volcano kas mostly explosive eruptions. The video below shows what such an explosions looks like.

VAAC Darwin reported a 7000 ft high ash cloud from Batu Tara, Indonesia

NOAA satellite shows a faint SO2 cloud next to Mount Pagan , one of the Mariana islands

The video below is are compiled webcam images of a blast at Sakurajima volcano, Japan. No incandescent eruption mainly because of the daylight.
