Strong but luckily deep earthquake in Afghanistan
At the current reported depth, we do not think that this earthquake will be damaging.
This earthquake has been felt in Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Tajikistan, etc.
All the reporting and to be trusted seismological agencies are reporting depths of +150 km.
The risk on landslides will however be present in this high mountain area.
Closest city to the epicenter : Fayzabad, Afghanistan.

Strong earthquake off the coast of the Kuril Islands, Russia
This is the second strong to very strong earthquakes off the coast of the volcanic, mostly unpopulated Kuril Islands.  The distance from the epicenter to the coast of the islands is distant enough to not create any problems.

  • Bagram, Afghanistan - BAF air base.. high initial and lingering (5-10 seconds) after shock.
  • BAF - high initial, lingering (5-10 seconds) after "wiggle"
  • Bagram, Afghanistan - At Bagram, felt a slow shake first. Intensity increased and quake continued while shaking the whole building. Much stronger and longer quake than the ones last month.
  • Islamabad, pakistan - Very weak shaking reported
  • Kabul - Started very weak but got to moderate for a few seconds
  • Kabul - Moderate shaking indicated in Kabul
  • kabul - We confirm a light shaking in Kabul
  • Bagram, Afghanistan - It's my day off, so I was laying in my bed watching supernatural. My bed started swaying back & forth, first softly at first, then more insistently. I could see the whole hut around me shake. It was pretty crazy! When it was over, I ran out into the hall at the same time as my hut-mate and we were both like "did you feel that?!?" It was awesome. Exhilerating. A great break from the monotony of "Groundhog's Day" over here.
  • bagram airfield - lite shaking
  • Kabul, Afghanistan - Started with very weak shaking and gradually progressed to moderate shaking (enough where people started to get out of their chairs to go outside). From the weak trembling to moderate shaking to it tapering off was at least 20-30 seconds.
  • Bagram, Afghanistan - Shook the builging for about 10 seconds.
  • Afghenistan (Denmark base) - Oh yeah baby, I felt that one. I feel the earth move under my feet!
  • Tashkent - Light shaking reported
  • Kunduz - my tent was rocking ..wave like...very unnerving...
  • Kunduz, Afghanistan - whole dfac shook pretty strongly for 45-60 seconds. with slight aftershocks for about 5 minutes afterwards.
  • Bagram - Weak shaking- noticed my chair moving and my water swaying then felt it increase to a light shaking. Heard the walls/windows creak.
  • India Chandigarh - Very weak shaking
  • Bagram - I was sleeping when my bed started shaking for about 10 seconds. I could hear my closet doors shaking.
  • Afghanistan - Just scary a bit, wars are bad enough now mother nature throws in earthquakes as well....Damn
  • Gardez Afghanistan - building moved for 10 seconds
  • Kabul - Light shaking at first with strong winds outside; grew to moderate shaking for 5-7 seconds. Entire event lasted about 30 seconds
  • Kabul - Started with barely noticable shakes for 15 seconds. Stopped for 5 seconds then had about 10 seconds of moderate shaking. A few barely perceptible aftershocks 1-3 minutes after the main earthquake.
  • Jalalabad, Afghanistan - Light shaking at first, followed by moderate shaking. Lasted 15-20 seconds.
  • Jalalabad, Afghanistan - Light shaking at first, followed by moderate shaking. Lasting 15-20 seconds.
  • Jalalabad Afghnistan - I was eating dinner in the mess hall on FOB Fenty, Jalalabad and the building began to shake as if a chinook helicopter was landing real close to the building however there was no noise from engines or the noise from twin rotor blades spinning. This lasted about 5-10 seconds then roughly a moment later it happenned again, obviously an aftershock, lasting about 10-15 seconds.
  • Khogyani, Afghanistan - On FOB Connolly, approx 20 miles Southwest of Jalalabad and 10 miles North of Pak border. Felt a light shake at first, then it progressed into a moderate shake. Our building was swaying for the duration of about 10 seconds. Having experienced California quakes, this one felt like the earth was 'rippling', as opposed to vertical bouncing.
  • Kabul - Building shaking, doors swaying
  • Bagram,Afghanistan - Swaying of table and floor, rumbling of ground.
  • FOB Fenty, Jalalabad - I felt my B-hut shaking and a few things fell off the walls
  • Kabul - THe whole room, doors, window glass, and the light fixtures shook, but it was extremely short, no more than about 5 seconds, the shortest earthquake of the 10-or-so I have felt. Steve
  • Bangalore, India - Just a quick jolt and thud. We were standing on the ground(field) so couldn't have been anything else.

seismograph - recordingUseful information to read this daily earthquake list
This earthquake list covers important earthquakes in the world.
If a more detailed page is present, the earthquake line will be linked to the detailed page.
For your comfort, we will provide in most cases a Google Satellite Map to give you an idea where the earthquake struck, which terrain it happened and if villages or cities are located in the immediate vicinity. The multi-source approach has been setup to compare values as seismology is not an exact science and needs a lot of calculations. The reference for the time zone is UTC (Coordinated Universal Time, also called GMT). Color explanation if we add some details above the list :
green color = NOT dangerous for damage or injuries
orange color = MODERATE risk for damage or injuries
red color = CONSIDERABLE risk for damage or injuries

MMI II (Very weak shaking) ?
    People :
Felt by persons at rest, on upper floors or favorably placed.
    MMI III (Weak shaking) ?
    People :
Felt indoors; hanging objects may swing, vibration similar to passing of light trucks, duration may be estimated, may not be recognized as an earthquake.
    MMI IV (Light shaking) ?
    People :
Generally noticed indoors but not outside. Light sleepers may be awakened. Vibration may be likened to the passing of heavy traffic, or to the jolt of a heavy object falling or striking the building.
    Fittings :
Doors and windows rattle. Glassware and crockery rattle. Liquids in open vessels may be slightly disturbed. Standing motorcars may rock.
    Structures :
Walls and frames of buildings, and partitions and suspended ceilings in commercial buildings, may be heard to creak.
    MMI V (Moderate shaking) ?
    People :
Generally felt outside, and by almost everyone indoors. Most sleepers awakened. A few people alarmed.
    Fittings :
Small unstable objects are displaced or upset. Some glassware and crockery may be broken. Hanging pictures knock against the wall. Open doors may swing. Cupboard doors secured by magnetic catches may open. Pendulum clocks stop, start, or change rate.

Some large display windows cracked. A few earthenware toilet fixtures cracked.
    MMI VI (Strong shaking) ?
People Felt by all. People and animals alarmed. Many run outside. Difficulty experienced in walking steadily.
    Fittings :
Objects fall from shelves. Pictures fall from walls. Some furniture moved on smooth floors, some unsecured free-standing fireplaces moved. Glassware and crockery broken. Very unstable furniture overturned. Small church and school bells ring. Appliances move on bench or table tops. Filing cabinets or "easy glide" drawers may open (or shut).
    Structures :
Slight damage to buildings with low standard. Some stucco or cement plaster falls. Large display windows broken. Damage to a few weak domestic chimneys, some may fall.
    Environment :
Trees and bushes shake, or are heard to rustle. Loose material may be dislodged from sloping ground, e.g. existing slides, talus slopes, shingle slides.
MMI VII (Very strong shaking) ?
    People
General alarm. Difficulty experienced in standing. Noticed by motorcar drivers who may stop.
    Fittings :
Large bells ring. Furniture moves on smooth floors, may move on carpeted floors. Substantial damage to fragile contents of buildings.
    Structures :
Unreinforced stone and brick walls cracked. Low standard buildings cracked with some minor masonry falls. A few instances of damage to buildings of ordinary workmanship. Unbraced parapets, unbraced brick gables, and architectural ornaments fall. Roofing tiles, especially ridge tiles may be dislodged. Many unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, often falling from roof-line. Water tanks Type I burst. A few instances of damage to brick veneers and plaster or cement-based linings. Unrestrained water cylinders (hot-water cylinders) may move and leak. Some common windows cracked. Suspended ceilings damaged.
    Environment :
Water made turbid by stirred up mud. Small slides such as falls of sand and gravel banks, and small rock-falls from steep slopes and cuttings. Instances of settlement of unconsolidated or wet, or weak soils. Some fine cracks appear in sloping ground. A few instances of liquefaction (i.e. small water and sand ejections).
    MMI VIII (Severe shaking) ?
People Alarm may approach panic. Steering of motorcars greatly affected. Structures : Low standard buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. ordinary workmanship buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged in some cases.
