  • AHMEDABAD - we were sitting on 7th floor and started shanking for 10 seconds.
  • Ahmedabad - I was on 1st floor on Trade Center Nr. Stadium Cross Roads, Ahmedabad. I felt for 3-4 sec shaking my chair
  • ahemedabad - At 2.00 was on net & fell the shocks, with steel cupborads trembling.
  • Ahmedabad - I felt for about 5 secs around 1.30 am and so did my neighbours June 20/6/12 Ahmedabad, India
  • Ahmedabad - I was on 2nd floor lying on my bed and felt bed was shaking and windows glass were rattling.. it continued for few seconds though!
  • ahmedabad - I was sleeping, but felt a strong shake. Even my heart starting beating fast.
  • Ahmedabad - I was lying down on my bed and suddenly I could feel the entire bed shaking for good 10 seconds. It was very scary.
  • Ahmedabad - I was just about to sleep ( just closed my eyes) at 1.45 AM, on the terrace of my apartment, i felt a light shake, as if like i am on wooden bench with no balance, within no seconds i woke up and sat there was one more light shake again after 6 to 8 secons, i realized that this could be an earthquake and we rushed down evacuating the whole building and were with no sleep till 3 'o' clock night, yesterday.

  • Melbourne, Australia - 10 to 15 seconds feeling the house moving lightly deep in its foundations
  • Noble Park Nth Victoria Australia - 9pm started as a slight shake then intensified last about 2 mins
  • kilsyth vic - just watching t.v and the house started shaking at first I thought it was the washing machine but then it felt like the house was rocking.
  • Tonimbuk Victoria Australia - Probably the strongest I've felt in our area. lasted between 20 to 30 seconds.
  • melbourne - brief "wave" tremor was felt approx 8.55pm Melbourne time in the south east of the city There has been no further activity.

  • Frankston South Victoria Australia - Lasted about 5-10s bookshelves rattled against walls. Also known to have been felt 10km north.

  • Kew, Melbourne - Sitting at computer in front of window and felt building shake and saw blind cords move - lasted several seconds.

  • Cape Paterson, Victoria, Australia - At 8.55pm our 2 storey house was shakey severly enough to shake over a few items and give us a scare. Strong grumbling noise like a bull dozer.

  • 3860 - Earthquake at about 8:50. light shaking
  • Rowville Vic aust - Easy noticed unusual shaking of the house long enough and sufficient enough for us to get up and go to our child ready to respond to leave the house if neededed.
  • Williamstown VIC - Like a freight train running through the lounge room for about 10 seconds - scary!

  • Ivanhoe, Vic - Felt couch shaking and thought my dog was under the footrest bumbing it or something but then realized it was stronger than that...
  • victoria australia - we just had a awesome quake dont no how big but pictures fell of walls and kids were scared and tv was on it way down to before i caught it.
  • Pakenham - was waiting for a crash or explosive noise or something!!!
  • Langwarrin - The earthquake hit where we live and it felt like a freight train was coming through the house. I was thinking of getting out of the house

  • Avondale heights Melbourne - 901pm 19/06 - Pictures fell off walls TV fell off stand. Like being on a boat in heavy seas lasted about 10 seconds
  • Langwarrin, Vic - Thought my heater was about to explode then realised it was an earthquake
  • home - it was scary at first then near the end it was amazing! wow cool experience
  • Ferntree Gully - Pretty scary stuff, the whole house shook for about 10 seconds.
  • Wonga Park - 8:50pm shook whole house for 30 seconds
  • Point Cook - Noticed windows shaking, originally thought it was a strong gust of wind until I realised everything was shaking.
  • Knoxfield - scary, standing up
  • ferntree gully - Boy I though the next door was having sex rattling the bed but I was wrong , it was a EQ and was scary.
  • Mitcham, Victoria - At first it seemed like a strong wind, then the house started shaking for a good 15-20 seconds.
  • Melbourne - It was a moderate shaking, not very strong.
  • AUSTRALIA - omfg i was so fking scared
  • Moe - Aftershock at 9.15pm very mild
  • Kilsytj - The house shook for several seconds.
  • Cheltenham, Victoria - Lasted between 10-15 seconds.
  • McCrae - On the top storey of our house which is on a hill never felt one before it was a little scary.
  • AUSTRALIA - 10-15 seconds in Morwell son nearly had kids !!!!
  • AUSTRALIA - Heard some loud cracks from our house, followed by couch shaking, floor lamp swaying and vibrating. Birds outside went mad.
  • Melbourne - Lasted approximately 20 seconds
  • Frankston - A noise followed by a minute of quite strong shaking. Windows rattled, loose items 'danced around'. It was quite scary.
  • Stratford - Shook the curtains and the pots on table, went for about 30-45 seconds
  • Melbourne - Was funny and strange, the table even started moving a little bit. Door and windows rattled and it was quite bizzare, I've never experienced one like it before
  • Berwick - To begin with it was just a little rumble... but then everything shook! It was a fairly even distribution of the intensity.... it gradually got more intense (reached a maximum intensity) then slowly decreased... must have lasted 30 seconds....
  • Tocumwal, NSW - Probably around 10 seconds long. Minor house rattles, but the projector swinging gave it away.
  • 3021 - Walls and furniture all shaking strongly.
  • clayton - wardrobe shaking bed shaking ...was pretty scary...
  • Ringwood , VIC 3134 Australia - This was enough to hear plaster crack just. Very lateral with a consistent level for the 5 waves - rocking rather than rolling or shuddering. No pause between waves or changes to them. ( Kiwi from Hastings whose first memory is age3 - "Daddy, Daddy stop shaking the house!!")
  • taylors hill - about 21.02 moderate shaking for about 7 seconds
  • berwick, victoria - fun! don't get earthquakes much down here! strongest ive ever felt
  • Ferntree Gully - I thought the windows were going to give way, had to hold on to things on shelves biggest shake I have felt in 25 years living in Ferntree Gully.
  • Wangaratta - Looked up and the walls of the house were shaking and the blinds were moving as well
  • Pakenham - rumbled a bit before shaking...thought the hill was sliding downwards. lasted 10-15 seconds
  • fawkner - felt like a gust of wind
  • AUSTRALIA - Sounded like a train or truck just outside the house, all the windows rattling.

  • Warragul, Victoria - It lasted for about 15-20 seconds but the shake was a steady build up. I thought it might have been something in the roof and after noticing it was my door everything shook. Keeping my head on straight i didn't move and kept aware of my surroundings, things started to slow down and it sounded like an army at my door step. Just walking past.
  • Launching Place - Shook windows and bookshelves, lasted 20 or more seconds
  • Seaford - Felt the movement on the computer chair and could see the slider doors shaking. I put my feet on the floor and was still feeling the swaying motion.
  • South Melbourne - couch and chairs rocked for a few seconds. there was no interference with TV reception which is odd
  • cranbourne, melbourne - OMG.... the earthquake!!thought it was the train or the wind.... cuz there i could hear the wind and live right next to the train tracks...... but it did go for quite a while :O scary though :/
  • Lakes Entrance Victoria - Shaking of chair.
  • Melbourne - The whole house war shaking and the furniture was moving
  • Moe - Was in the car, felt like people jumping on it. Got home stuff over the floor and cupboard doors opened.
  • NEERIM JUNCTION 3832 - lasted about 30 seconds. Entire house shook violently
  • Leongatha - Great rock and roll for about 30 sec
  • Preston, Melbourne - Light shaking sounded like a train was passing through the house. rattled doors and windows.
  • sunburt - Couch randomly started shaking
  • hampton victoria australia - unusual sensation - slight movement for a few seconds.
  • Lake Tyers Beach - Bed was shaking a lil for about 20 sec
  • AUSTRALIA - Furniture, pictures and tv rattling, shaking and moving.
  • Mount Eliza - Do it again
  • Rowville 3178 - Duration 15 to 20 seconds. All family noticed and heard including neighbor who called. Consistent vibration for whole duration. Made some of us feel a little sickly. No damage.
  • crANBOURNE - SHOOK THE WHOLE HOUSE FOR 15 20 SECONDS
  • Mirboo north - Holly bloody shit I'm scared the walls felt like they were bout to snap :/ I am 14 and that was way to scary and by bloody god do I now no how the new Zealand's feel
  • Camberwell melbourne - About a 3 on the mercalli scale I reckon
  • Noble Park - omg!!! lasted around 5 minutes then had around 3 minn shakes after strongest i have ever felt!!!
  • Ballarat - Doors, bookshelf rattled for 10-15 seconds. Like truck driving past without sound.
  • eltham vic - sitting watching tv then felt slight tremer a slight stop for 1-2 seconds then a second stronger tremer felt like a 3,5 -4,5 tremer thought i was back in nz again
  • Bendigo - Felt like a slight shaking and sounded like someone was walking on the roof.
  • Flemington - Chair swayed, mirror rattled and bottles and glasses chinked
  • Endeavour hills, 3802 - House was shaking, sliding door still shaking a few seconds after the shaking stopped.
  • East bentleigh,vic 3165 - at approx 8:52pm hanging lights swaying, fish tank turbulence, rolling episode lasting 30 sec, just like being in Christchurch
  • Belgrave, vic - About 30-40 seconds of shaking with loud rumble throughout. First one I've felt like that!
  • Morwell - Omg mega shakes and broken stuff
  • Emerald Victoria - First thought an animal was running over the roof of the house, then wondered if a tree was falling, could see the cathedral ceiling move and definite noises. Went outside onto the decking could still here and feel it.
  • wantirna sth - nothing like a new zealand quake loved it
  • Melbourne, Australia - Just sitting at my computer and my desk started shaking. I looked on facebook and people were asking if it was.
  • bangholme - about 30 secouds
  • Keilor - It lasted probably 5 to 7 seconds of the same intensity
  • ferntree gully - 10 seconds long, house shook like washing machine, sounded like jet
  • Blackburn,victoria - Could feel the earth moving for a few seconds
  • Sale vitoria - just a small movement felt in house, lasted about 15 secounds
  • Darlimurla - 9.05 pm heard a deep hum/rumbel over the TV sounds, like a large truck comming towards the house from the south (through double glazed door). Then the single glassdoor rattled and the floor shook sideways. it continued for 30 sec of so. 5 minutes later a small aftershock occured. 10 minutes later, a another hum aproached and the house shook a bit more.
  • Doreen Melb Vic - was wobbly at first then shaking and felt it move from one end of the house to the other ...
  • Maffra Victoria - My unit is built on stumps ...I felt like I was on a bed of jelly but with a rumbling sound accompanying it. Very strong movement & shaking ...cats weren't too pleased either!
  • AUSTRALIA - whole house shook for around 20 seconds in ringwood
  • Melbourne, Australia - Roof (steel) creaked, blinds shook, animals were scared.
  • Kilysth South - 10-15 minutes
  • docklands, melbourne - 6th floor of a 9 flr apartment complex. the whole building shock laterally 4-6 inches for 20 seconds or so
  • Lakes Entrance - thought it was strong wind, however there didn't appear to be any wind at all. had to conclude earthquake.
  • AUSTRALIA - In cranbourne my fridge, bottles and glasses shook. In Pakenham it cracked my sons door frames and a small crack on his inside wall.
  • Morwell 3840 - Biggest earthquake experienced in the 50 years I have lived in Morwell. Sounded like someone was jumping up and down on a bed which collapsed followed by the cupboards.
  • Puckapunyal - windows shook pictures shook on the walls
  • Ringwood North - Felt it for 30 seconds approx, felt the floor vibrating and saw the ornaments shaking.
  • Glen Waverley - Mild rumbling 19/6/12 8.55pm. Lasted about 5 seconds. Very unusual.
  • Mornington - Felt the house shake and door rattle never experienced this before
  • Doncaster - The foundations of the whole house were shaking, the plates were almost falling off the shelves!
  • St Albans - First thought it was strong wind shaking the house, then everything inside started to rattle and shake. Lasted about 10 seconds.
  • Kallista VIC - Whole house rumbled. Strongest felt since leaving NZ 25+ years ago!
  • Mooroolbark - I thought something was on the roof until the windows started shaking then it got scary!!
  • Collingwood - sideways shaking which felt quite strong. A few thing fell from shelves. a man outside said the outside of our buildings were moving side to side.
  • Leongatha, Victoria - Not used to earthquakes. Strongest we have felt ever. Dog upset, young girl scared to go to sleep, very strange, surreal feeling. House shook for 10-ish seconds. Long, low rumble grew in intensity, then subsided. Wow!
  • Kew Melbourne - Felt like a plane with the flaps down on approach being buffeted in turbulance. Brick house creaked.
  • Warburton Vic - whole house shook for 15/20 seconds
  • Wodonga Victoria - Our house shook or rocked sideways - east to west for a few seconds
  • Vermont - Thought it was a truck rumbling along Boronia Rd at first then I realised the whole house was shaking!!!
  • Langwarrin - Sitting there watching tv and had me legs up on the table and i started to feel the table shaking and the pictures on the wall move
  • Cranbourne - Shaking windows and noise
  • Warragul - Thought it was a large gust of wind at first, house and furniture  vibrated/shook and birds flew from trees. It didn't stop for 20-30 seconds was scary!!
  • Pakenham Victoria. - Felt more like an up-down motion more than side to side. I was sitting on the floor. It was rattling the windows for approximately 7 seconds. Nice shake!
  • Warragul Vic - Started as a vibration and developed into a shake that made the internal walls of my house wave and then went back to a vibration that lingered for a while. Whole thing took about 30 to 40 seconds.
  • Narre Warren - Went outside looking for helicoptors or heavy trucks going by - the windows were rattling and curtains were moving!
  • lalor - reptile tank was shaking then my computer table and bed were shaking
  • Australia, Victoria, Berwick - Lost control of my body movement.
  • Warburton - Windows shook at bit
  • Croydon - Walls and fridge shook,glasses rattled,went outside
  • doncaster - ok but the big one is yet to come
  • Geelong - Felt lie experiencing vertigo! Floor was rumbling and windows shaking!
  • Bonbeach - Thought that a mack truck was coming down our shared driveway. The rumbling sound then the shakes
  • noble park north - I was sitting next to the central heating and i Was wondering why my butt was shaking. Til it got slightly worse.
  • Eaglemont 3084 VIC - Two people in solid brick house heard sound similar to loud wind or waterfall as shaking began; objects moving in house, floor and furniture shaking, windows rattling, flatscreen TV nearly fell over (was saved when we noticed it jumping; larger tremors for 15-20 seconds then lighter tremors for another 10-15 seconds. Neighbour's dog went ballistic a few minutes earlier.
  • Boronia - Light shaking like a truck going past, but got stronger and could see the walls and ceiling flexing, then slowly died off over 10-15 seconds. Best guess is it lasted a little under a minute.
  • Altona Meadows - Walls, furniture trembling enough to notice something was amiss!
  • Noble park - windows felt like they were going to shatter. table shaking and pictures looked like they where going to come off the wall..
  • albury nsw - everything started shaking and my vision went hazey thought i was having a anurizum or my house was collapsing scarey shit
  • Thornbury - 30 seconds long
  • Cottles Bridge - Dog barked and heard a cracking sound
  • Pakenham - Was sitting with family and friends when house shook and rumbling sound was evident
  • Lara Vic 3212 - Mirror on wall shook quite badly, roof creeking, doors rattled. Lasted about 20 sec.
  • Carnegie - It was quite terrifying at first. Its defineetley the most powerful we've felt in years
  • Elwood - Windows and furniture rattling for several seconds
  • Frankston 3199 - It lasted long enough for me to get out of the house in case it came down. I would have thought from start to finish it lasted one minute as it took a while for my husband to beleive it was an earthquake when I first said.
  • Shepparton - i didnt feel it but others in the house did- they didnt think it was an earthquake
  • Brimbank Gardens - Very weak and only lasted a few seconds. It was barely noticeable. i noticed it, but my wife in another room didn't. I thought i was imagjning things until i saw all this..haha.
  • Parkdale - Strongest yet stop digging holes I say
  • kyneton - felt it
  • Wheelers Hill - It sounded like a locomotive heading my way (and I was inside), the windows started to shake, then the house (2 storey solid brick), the roof rattled and then it was gone, just like a freight train passing through - a long 45-60 seconds. I've never felt anything like it!
  • Beaconsfield, victoria - Just felt another mild one lasting around 5 seconds at 10.00 chandler still shaking from first one over an hour ago
  • Near Wagga Wagga - Lasted about 30 seconds - pots and pans clinking and washing on the line shaking
  • Seville VIC - I've never felt anything like that before, I've always had to ask myself did the earth just move? But no doubt about it, it was a shaken' for a good 30 seconds too!
  • Grovedale, VIC - First time I have felt one here in AUS, had them before in NZ. Quite noticeable and seemed to go for a while. Pet cat not moved by experience - I thought they would be more sensitive
  • Wantirna South - I Was Sitting At My Computer and i felt a jolt then some very strong shaking things were rattling my dog was barking and running laps of the house things where falling and lights swinging like crazy it was amazing i have never felt one before but this was STRONG it i stood up but couldnt walk it was that bad!!!
  • Mornington - Heard a rumble, then felt a thud on the house, thought it was a possum at first. Then house started shaking in a jolting sort of way, could see walls moving and blind flapping. Was vey eery!
  • Cowes - A huge pounding noise on cathedral ceilings,sounded like the colorbond roof was buckling
  • Montrose - I was laying down and felt couch move across the room, doors opened and kitchen items tumbled around. windows shaking, deep rumbling deep beneath the house like a train. Trees outside creaking....Surprisingly strong for such a brief period, roughly under 2 minutes of solid turbulance.
  • Upwey - The ground and windows shook, we run to the kids' bedrooms ready to pick them up and get outside, their walls and roof shook for at least another 30secs. We could still hear it outside moving slowly away from us. scary
  • Seaford - very loud in upstairs kids rooms, downs stairs dinner set on display rattled like crazy on shelves
  • Frankston South - Another one please, just no damage to person or property if that's okay.
  • sunbury - I was sitting on the couch and the floor was shaking and then my couch started moving. It was like poltergeist in my house. Quite scary!
  • noble park north - I heard a loud noise outside sounding like strong wind and then noticed the whole house was shaking side to side. When i asked my daughter do you feel that she was standing up like she was surfing on an invisible surfboard. Was a very strange experience. It felt like it lasted for minutes.
  • Trafalgar East - Scary, gabbed the kids out of bed and ran outside. Came through like a freight train...no kidding that was not good.
  • Bacchus Marsh - Whole house shaking - felt like second story was swaying - never felt anything like it.
  • Dinner Plain - Felt it for about 20 seconds
  • Kew, Melbourne, Australia - I was just looking at the curtain shaking for about 20 seconds. It was strong I think.

  • Wallan Vic - our washing machine makes our house shake (it's on stumps) felt like the washing machine was on but mildly worse, the whole house was shaking for about 30 seconds.

  • Cranbourne - Sounded just like a good windy storm outside, not much shaking, not even the rattle of ornament on the tables. There seemed to be small tremers felt through the floor for a good 5 mins after. pretty cool actually
  • Yarragon South - Whole house shook, could see windows and doors shaking violently. Loud rumbling sounds like dozens of very heavy possums on the roof. Must have been around 10 secs at loudest and most violent shaking stage.
  • Narre warren south - Sitting at computer and the glass desks began shaking and house shook, sounded like a train or truck driving past house, no damage felt like 2 lots first one lasting around 10 secs then approx 20 secs after another lasting about 1 min
  • Rowville - Wow! I could have sworn I had a chinook landing out on the deck! The whole house was shaking
  • Driffield - Ran outside, didn't think it was going to stop, pictures off the walls, ornaments fell..
  • Moe - Initially thought noise and house shaking was gas central heating unit in roof space above me about to explode so ran outside. Eventually news started to filter through about earthquake. Things thrown out of cupboards and off shelves and broken - scary!
  • Sale - Felt like I was sat on the mobile phone that was vibrating. only to realise the phone was in the hand.

  • Dinner Plain - Felt weird vibration during a liquor tasting. Thought it was just the booze.
  • geelong - Was in bed reading felt Definite vibration for about 10 seconds
  • Werribee 3030 - Just before 09:00pm, 2 story house on concrete slab shook for about 20 seconds. Windows and glassware rattled, pictures on walls swayed, bed and furniture shook, rumbling noise
  • Mount Martha, Victoria - It started like a small tremmor but increased and our whole house was shaking, things where rattling, lasted about 15-20 seconds maybe then settled. Felt no aftershocks.
  • Caulfield North Melbourne - I was about to sleep and I felt the window shaking with a loud noise and then the bed for 15-20 secs...
  • Seaford - Sounded like large trucks passing by with light rumbling. Woke cat up from his sleep.
  • Thomastown - Felt the couch shaking, glasses in cabinet rattling and the dogs in the area went crazy
  • Princes Hill - In bed writing email. Felt vibration and rumbling. Thought little of it initially. But it continued and strengthened. Then my bed, windows and shelving all started shaking. Flocks of birds in nearby trees all took off screaching. Once all settled I thought, wow...that was an earthquake. Amazing to experience!
  • Wandin North Victoria - Felt for approx. 20 seconds, moderate shaking, could clearly 'hear' rumbling.
  • north melbourne - reading a book around 20:55 the full house was shaking and the sofa kept moving, felt scary. I had to call my husband overseas!! I thought I was imagining things, then I heard people shouting and laughing outside, it was an earthquake!!

  • Bruthen - Immediately I believed an earthquake, I felt very nervous, then I thought it was a herd of possums on my roof, then I thought a massive accident in the area, listening to the loud sounds of freight train running over head for what seemed a long time, watching and feeling my home shake and rattle with pictures falling over. A very frightening experience
  • Footscray - Not big compared to quakes I've felt in New Zealand, but very significant for Melbourne - I am in a 6th floor apartment, and the building was swaying or rocking quite dramatically.
  • Northcote, Melbourne - Deep rumbling and light shaking of house exterior - our large glass cathedral doors made quite a dramatic noise with their shaking. Not as strong as previous quakes when we have had ornaments shift on shelves. Floor wasn't moving this time. Didn't last very long - possibly up to 15 seconds. Animals bemused but not barking/yowling.
  • Mount Martha VIC - Just before 9pm, lasted about half a minute. Sitting back in my recliner and the chair started swaying/shaking, wasn't feeling well and thought it was my imagination at first didn't know what was happening, freaked me out. Never felt one before. Checked with my son and he had the same stunned reaction, was sitting on his computer chair which moved and shook.
  • Melbourne - i didnt not feel it but i think it was a light shaking even no i was awake i might have felt it.
  • Brunswick West Victoria - In bed when first shock hit. My bed shook and walls rumbled. Have two storey unit. Second shock was less but bed still shook. My dog and cats came over to me.
  • Grovedale - cat was on window sill for half hour crazy meowing prior to weak shudder. Actually thought I was unsteady not thinking of an earthquake, window gave a shudder. Probably 10 seconds.

  • Ferntree Gully Melbourne - Lying on my bed at about 8:54pm and heard a rumbling sound. thought it was a air plane, thunder or maybe just strong winds. I seen the curtains swaying but their not open. Then notice the bed was rocking and thought this is an earthquake. I thought it was only bout 10-15sec but maybe it was longer.
  • Moe - shook vases of shelves, broke mirrors , lot of items on floors, opened cupboads and toolboxes, made my cat vomit on my favorite chair!... very loud splitting noise intially thought it was a tree falling on the back of the house. could see the roof swaying side to side about 200mm,flipped the iorning board upside down.... took 1/2 bottle of red to settle wifes nerves
  • Melbourne - The ground trembled for over half a minute in Melbourne. It was the strongest tremor I have ever felt in my life!
  • newbrough - it was pretty scary at start as i am only young and never had to deal with an earthquake before i was staying at my nans house that night as she lives alone im glad i was there to look after her there wasnt a load of damage done but because there is so much im her house we cant really tell how much damage was done it was a very scary experiance and hope i dont have to deal with it any time soon as my nan said"it felt like a car went through the front of the house)thanks for listening bye xx

  • Trafalgar, Gippsland, Victoria, Australi - Have experienced lighter tremours in this area before i.e. Mid Gippsland eminating in South Gippsland Region, but this was clearly the most dramatic. Often they occur in Autumn after a bout of heavy rain, but this one was later early winter. Have been expecting one. Previous ones were around 4.3. Whole house shaking with this one i.e. quite violently more of a 5 or above and accompanying strange sound/noise. All the neighbours ran out into the street afterwards. Felt at first like a sudden wind

  • Traralgon - House shook, lights moved, nothing fell or broke so enough to notice, but not strong enough for damage. Lasted for about 10-15 seconds

  • Berwick - I nearly wet my pants, I knew it would have been bigger than last years tremors. It's worrying knowing that they're getting bigger.

  • Mount Beauty - On the second level of our two story apartment and felt an obvious sway. Glass of water rippled and picture frames shifted.
  • Wantirna South, Vic 3152 - Like a strong wind at first, then we thought it was someone upstairs, then we noticed our dresser mirror shaking. Went on for estimated 20 sec. Very surprised by how far afield people seem to have felt it .. like Wodonga!
  • Seaford, Vic - Factory felt as if a very strong gust of wind had hit then everything moved, as if on a boat
  • Pakenham Vic - Started out like a truck and became louder and stronger. Windows rattled and the house shook. Probably lasted 30 secs in total. Strongest one I've ever felt.

  • Neerim South - You could hear it like a strong gust of wind then everything shook the crack in the floor of my garage is now wider it felt like 30-40sec long I'm still shaking.
  • Warburton - longest earthquake I have ever experienced certainly shook this house. I was almost ready to evacuate the house.

  • Rye Victoria - i was in Bed, felt my bed shack floor walls, GRoundddddddd, Room felt it pass thur like thunder , A train of thunder ,,I could feel the retaining walls outside bedroom throb,Like a Semi Truck was under me and all over Me... Vibebrations , were strong
  • Vermont - Thought it was a truck rumbling down Boronia Rd but then realised things were shaking in the house!
  • Langwarrin - Thought it was a huge gust of wind at first, but then the house shook for aroung 10seconds....glad kids slept through it!

  • Avonsleigh Victoria Aust. - Strong Shaking lasted for a minute,then we could still feel light shaking going on after this for about 2 minutes. The china rattled on walls the floor shook. It sounded like a very noisy truck flying past.
  • Thornbury, Victoria - Structural shudder affecting timber frame house for around 30 seconds, rumbling motion from beneath, objects/items falling off shelves, furniture.
  • Leopold Geelong - Shook the doors and windows briefly
  • McMahons Creek, Victoria - Approx 9.10pm. Felt two earthquakes 5-10 seconds apart. Each lasted around 5 seconds. Whole house shook.
  • Blackburn North - we felt the shake for about 15 seconds and it was quite a shock as we have not had this experience before.
  • Berwick - 15 to 20 seconds of shaking, the biggest I have felt in Victoria.
  • Heatherton - door frame was shaking, photo frames on the wall were shaking. No damage
  • Berwick, Victoria, Australia - Felt like it was never going to stop, the last thing i would ever expect while sitting on the couch watching TV!
  • Hampton, South Victoria - Watching tv and the house started shaking a bit. Enough to shake this desktop computer, but not dangerous at all and pretty cool.
  • Chelsea - I was sitting on the floor at the time. Felt the house shaking - I thought it was a strong wind, but realised the whole house was shaking. TV, drink on the table were shaking for as long as 30 seconds.
  • AUSTRALIA - Sale Victoria, dont think there has ever been an earthquake felt here before!
  • Essendon - Biggest ive felt by far and longest 20-30 secs shaking, 2nd floor apartment too tho, blinds shaking, cordless phone rolling side to side on table, had my keys in hand ready to bolt out then it decreased for 10 secs
  • Seymour - crazy, pretty heavy, just goes to show how minimal we are in comparison to the world. can't stop mother nature! or mother nature is giving us a warning, cause we ain't nothin but a gold digger!
  • Mernda, Victoria - it was very scary and very loud it felt like something was going to explode the house was shacking and my dog was barking
  • Yarra Glen, Victoria - Chair was shaking, nic nac's on shelves shaking and some fell, lots of rattling. Like a semi coming through my lounge.
  • Healesville - Sounded like a freight train coming towards the house. Windows doors and floors rattling quite loudly. Pictures on walls shaking. Floor shaking. 20-30 secs.
  • hampton east - leaning back on couch watching tv when suddenly icould feel the couch shaking ....thought I was imaging it till it started again
  • Epping - Just a moderate shaking lasting about 10 seconds. I was sitting on the bed and noticed a slight movement, and looked up at our mirrored robes, and saw the rippling effect of the tremor on our mirrored doors. The walls were slightly shaking also. This happened at around 9pm......Cool!
  • Clifton Creek - I thought something knocked into the glass doors, shook the out of the house
  • AUSTRALIA - My house was strongly shaking, i was very scared
  • Sunshine - The whole house shook slightly. Probably because it's a 2 storey house. Sounded like an aeroplane flying low.
  • Doncaster - Heard the side of my house crack first then heard the tremor coming twice short and brief actually thought it was a really strong wind then the whole house shook for approximately 20 seconds. Still doesn't compare to an aftershock I heard and felt off the coast of Croatia in 1999 after Turkeys devastating earthquake but scary enough!
  • Ferntree Gully - Our 2 level house shook really badly, I thought it was going to break. I've never experienced anything like this, didn't know what to do. Thank goodness for Google - next time I will be prepared!
  • Wallan, Victoria 3756 - for about 5seconds = 30 seconds of house shaking (walls, floor, windows) very load roar and winds all happened about 9-9:30pm on 19/06/2012
  • Mordialloc - holding onto our chairs for 30 seconds trying to decide if we should move under a table
  • Sunbury Melbourne Australia - i was in bed and my bed was shaking very scary
  • maffra - didnt feel shit! my sister and husband were in the same room as me and they felt it... i thought they were being spastics til i googled it.
  • Lalor - My lamp and fish tank were shaking and the walls were rumbling.
  • shepparton - Thought it was the dog under the table, wife thought the same - dog still asleep in the middle of the room. Wind chimes,hanging utensiles, hearth tongs swaying. Low rumbling like train passing, all neighbour hood dogs barking, felt nausea.
  • Scoresby - bed started shaking like we lived in the middle of flinders st station !! scary
  • Maffra - Was that a fracking earthquake?
  • Coolaroo - Its freaky because i asked for a sign. Allah has once again reminded us of his excistance. Believe in only him as we have no one other then he to turn to!
  • Bentleigh - Tremor felt through couch for 5 seconds then stopped started again couple seconds later tremor slightly more severe rattled windows walls, pets went crazy. Went for about 20 to 30 seconds
  • Frankston South - Thought it was our crazy spin cycle washing machine, then realised we weren't washing!! 20 seconds of shaking windows, a little bit like what I'd imagine if we had a V8 convention going by our home!
  • Mount Waverley, Vic - I was sitting at the computer playing on FB at the time the quake hit. I actually thought the rattling of the wall unit was just another visit from our regular paranormal entity....but then the shaking got stronger and the windows rattled and my chair shook as I sat watching the cat freak out and my FB newsfeed spam up with earthquake statuses! FREAKY!
  • Montrose - I was laying down and felt couch move across the room slightly, doors opened and kitchen items tumbled around. Trees outside creaking....strong and deep for a short one
  • Melton - house creaked like when its windy and slight rocking of lounge chair
  • Bendigo - sitting on the couch and felt slight vibration and heard things creaking. the wooden ceiling creaked audibly over the sound of the tv.my cat stared at the ceiling for some time.
  • Pakenham - First earthquake I have ever felt! Dogs were barking cat ran off scared and the whole house was shakin. Extreamly loud!
  • Newport - Entire house shook for 20 seconds or more. Enough to scare us but not enough to wake our dog!
  • preston - Was very strong mattress was shaking,kitchen table moved and pantry door kept slamming open and closed got so scared at the start thought someone was trying to break in but as it went longer i knew it was an earthquake.
  • seaford - shaking for 30 seconds or more got kids out of bed thought a bomb was going to go off scared ,,
  • Lalor - very light my house is a new 40sq concrete slab and it felt like the house moved for 5 seconds not bad it was a great experience it would be great to fell that again but bigger
  • Mirboo North 3871 - Shaking and noise lasted about 20 seconds? I have never felt anything so violent in my life.
  • Traralgon South - Statues and trophys fell off tv entertainment unit, 2 x picture frames came off walls, windows and doors shook and rattled. Woke up all the kids and still trying to settle them for sleep. Lasted about 30 seconds - no damage to structure that we can see. Thanks God no one at this time has been critically injured.
  • Kyabrfam - Sitting on recliner when it starting shaking for about 5 to 10 seconds..
  • melbourne - windows cracked, couch shook, fish tank swaying
  • Dinner Plain Mt Hotham - Heard a roar or rumbling noise, thought it was a snow plough, but no snow on the roads, lasted about 15 to 20 seconds, lounge chair shook, crack in plaster wall has opened up a bit more
  • Wagga wagga - Was in bed and all a sudden my bed started shaking. Didn't know what was going on
  • Werribee - Lasted 5-10 seconds. Felt couch moving, jumped up & grabbed a torch to look under the couch lol.
  • Drouin-Warragul - Was taking a wild poo . suddenly me dunny starts grumbling . thought I was having an anurizm . lucky i checked my phone and every said there was an earthquake. my poo was major runny before i found out it was an earthquake .
  • Cranbourne - I was sitting on a chair and all of a sudden it started to shake and I could feel the floor moving,strange feeling

  • Warragul - 40 or so seconds....strong violent rocking of house and grumbline noise
  • Collingwood, Melbourne - It was PM.. not AM.. and around 9PM (june 19th 2012)
  • Moonee Ponds - Couch started shaking and there was a low rumble. Bookshelf shook noticeably and shelf items rattled.
  • AUSTRALIA - Doreen. I thought there was a helicopter hovering above the house. Garage doors shook.
  • Euroa - Our house moved side to side. Then a growling noise afterwards.
  • Brunswick 3056 - Sounded like someone was on the roof. Then the wall and windows started rattling an everything was moving.30-40 secs long. Much longer andstronger than last earthquake a few years ago!
  • Bobinawarrah - thought it was the predicted extreme winds! a deep rumble and mild movement of the house. But we are a long way from the centre
  • 3199 - 30 - 40+ seconds.
  • Drouin - Knocked TV over , cracked window , motorbike fell over.
  • Oxley - Daughter woke up neighbor called out whole house shaking
  • Bunyip Victoria - The windows and roof started shaking, thought it was the wind at first but the shake got stronger and seemed to travel from one end of the house to the other. It lasted about 20-30 seconds and is one of the strongest tremors we have experienced.
  • Trafalgar - Felt like roof was going to cave in and windows would break - they didn't! Loud rumbling noise. Really scary. Still scared!
  • Pakenham - First quake experience at first though was gust of wind thn windows started shakin then shaking got stronger items vibrating around was a freaky experience whilst laying in bed and feeling it shaking stopped after 30 secs
  • Dumbalk - Kids flew out of bed screaming , not wanting to go back. Would have lasted a good 30 secs. Thought the house was coming off its stumps :)
  • Somerville - 10-15 seconds of a rolling feeling rumble noise and could see movement of walls etc
  • Chiltern - just felt my recliner chair shaking.
  • AUSTRALIA - Confirming it was felt in Shepparton. I was watching T.V. I did feel nauseous until it was over. Things in my room, bed (I was sitting on), clothes horse, were shaking about 100-150mm side to side for about 20 seconds. Walls cracked open further than what they were.
  • millpark - bed started shaking it got stronger and stronger noises in the roof and walls.....scary as lasted 15 to 20 seconds
  • Ashburton - two distinct waves, deep rumble like a truck passing or really strong wind, up an down shaking lasted approximately 20-30 seconds, much stronger then the last Gippsland quake
  • maribyrnong vic - i was sooo scared that i thought the house was gonna fall down.!!!
  • Anglesea, victiria - Felt like someone walking on my roof , no sound, lasted 20-30 seconds. Made my recliner chair wobble around weirdly
  • Seaford - Was sitting at computer when chair starting shaking then walls started to shake and rattle, was quite scary, was surprised how strong it was.
  • Eltham North - Started suddenly with sound like very heavy rain storm with violent wind battering outside. Momentary silence then more violent wind sound and noticeable shaking of house. Sounded like a freight train was bearing down on the house but felt the same as a recent experience on a ship rolling violently in very turbulent seas. Lasted around half a minute. Have never experienced similar in this area before.
  • Oakleigh Melbourne - IDK didnt even feel it bahaha

  • Elwood 3184 - I didn't feel anything but the dog was barking, maybe a really strong building
  • Crib Point - Noise -a bang , house shook, windows rattle, dogs barked, chair shook
  • Taylors Lakes,Melbourne,Australia - It was scary the cracks sounded like a person was running on top of my roof my small chandelier was wobbling and now all the spider webs are dangling one roof.
  • Wagga wagga nsw - Slightest shimmer felt it through the floor thought I was fainting however water in fish tank had small waves on it
  • Melbourne, Australia - apparently 5.2
  • Rosebud - A massive roar I thought a plan was crashing in the back yard.
  • Melbourne Vic 3021 Australia - Felt the couch where I was sitting on shaking. Thought someone was behind me shaking the furniture. Last for about 10 to 15 seconds.
  • Balwyn - First earthquake experience didn't know what was happening, just heard loud noise like thunder and everything shook in the house, we got scared but at the same time an excitement because it was a first feeling of an EQ...
  • Clarinda- Victoria - the glasses in the cabinet started rattling and there was rumbling sound...it was weird to hear the rattling.. just before 9.00pm..lasted about 20 seconds.
  • YINNAR - Thought it was very strong wind at first when roof was making lots of noise, then husband said quake. It lasted about 30 seconds with windowns rattling, and house shaking side to side. Some items fell. Neighbour thought it was a cattle truck which had just left coming through their house. Real weird experience.
  • East St kilda - I was on the phone to my wife in Croydon when felt the rattle, though it had stopped where I was, it still continued in Croydon for at least 30 to 40 seconds longer I could hear the rattling over the phone, though it had stopped here in Melbourne it continued in Croydon. My wife even started to tell of my son and he came into the room saying that the whole house is shaking.
  • Moe - I was on skye to england at the time they heard it over there. They asked what was the noise I said earthquake.
  • Pakenham, Victoria - Started as a light rumble at first, but then it bacame apparent that it was an earthquake. The wine glasses at the bar chimed and the television shook; that was the first thing I noticed. Then some of my wine glasses smashed just from the 'clinging' of the glass and some fell and smashed. It was a very unique exciting experience though!
  • churchill - live in a 2 storey house thought the kids were running around until the walls, and floors started shaking violently, dogs were frightened, not sure in what damage outside until the morning, very scary
  • dandenong sth - crazy pics fell off walls im talking 150 mm concrete panel walls shakin openend my eyes up
  • Niddrie - We all thought it was an Airbus flying very low until we noticed the whole ground was going crazy. We all say there in shock looking around... Extreamly frightening stuff!
  • Drouin - The rattling noises were just amazing although I haven't yet found anythng broken. A very scary experience. My dogs were very upset.
  • woori Yallock - At first I thought a really strong wind was blowing then the house began to shake thought a big truck was outside knew it was an earthquake when all the cups and saucers were rattling and the lamp started to jump dog was terrified - we both crouched in doorway not sure if it safe to go outside in case power lines collapsed. All in all quite scary. Am putting off going to bed in case of another one.
  • Mount Martha - House shook, could feel the floor slab move
  • Frankston North - I was having a chat with my daughters in the lounge room when we started looking at each other feeling something is not right when we felt the whole house in slow motion shivered. My daughters ran into their bedrooms for their 5 boys under 10 years. I ran outside and over heard couple neighbours in loud voices exchanging of what had just occurred. My disabled single and alone neighbour rang my mobile with a frantic voice to seek refuge with my family. This al happened in about 15 - 20 seconds.
  • surrey hills VIC - Longer than a minute - birds went crazy outside (almost 9pm) sounded like a train on the roof and underneath our house
  • Lalor victoria - Was lying in bed and the house seemed to come alive - as if ghosts were running through the walls
  • New delhi - I was freaked
  • AUSTRALIA - At first thought it was a strong gust of wind, whole two storey house shaking lasting 30 seconds
  • Wonthaggi - My gas wall heater made the most noise; I thought it was going to explode. Then I realised the couch I was sitting on was shaking and the windows were rattling. The whole house felt like it was moving. It felt like I was living above a subway with a train going through beneath me. My dog stared at the wall heater for about half an hour afterwards. He didn't bark but he's very chilled.
  • Doncaster - Felt like I was on train for 30 seconds, could hear my window rattling.
  • st helena melbourne - moved the couch I was sitting on, walls started to make a creaking and cracking sound. sounded like a gale of wind was blowing against the house, in the bedroom furniture moved from side to side in a shuddering movement. lasted about 40 seconds. Quite scary.
  • Seaford - Just before 9pm we heard super loud rumbling outside as if tanks were rolling down our street. Plus it seemed all our trees were blowing in different directions Then the house started shaking- wall pictures, crockery and windows all shook pretty consistently for 20-30 seconds. An aftershock about an hour later.
  • Berwick - We heard a strange rumbling sound that got louder, then I felt the whole house shaking and swaying. I could feel the concrete slab shaking underneath my feet. It went for about 25 seconds.
  • Thornbury, Melbourne - Very loud, sounded like a train was passing our house at high speeds
  • AUSTRALIA - Bendig- It sounded & felt like someone was running across the roof. Strong tremors for a few seconds & then weakened. All up about 30secs. Very weird feeling
  • Berwick - At first I thought there was something big (like giant possums) running across the roof, then it felt as if a wind was about to lift the roof...and then the room swayed. Lasted 10-15 seconds.
  • Emerald - First ever concious experience, I'm 19 and remember small oneself happening whilst I was asleep, e.g waking up to very light shaking. But this was strange, I was on the second level of a supermarket, the thing shook like jelly. The strangest experience I've ever felt. Just glad it wasn't larger/shallower/longer.
  • Yallourn North - Was on internet, when laptop started shaing, table lamp dropped, the loud noise, felt like the house was being shoved from every side while being shaken, clocks fell off walls and I went outside to see truck, and realised it was the shortest and most intense quake I have felt. Spent some time picking up items that were shaken off shelves and broken/damaged. Happy to read no one injured :)
  • Prahran - Lasted on a few seconds. I originally thought that it was a possum running on the roof.
  • Blackburn South - thought a possum was going across the roof, then it sounded like a huge, huge gust of wind and very noisy and scary - then house started to shake and i realised it was an earthquake having experienced many in papua new guinea.
  • Brunswick - Whole house shook and I thought a plane might have hit the ground nearby.
  • St Andrews Beach - We felt our whole house shake for about 20 seconds.
  • Mirboo North - House shook a lot, noise came from underneath and sounded like a weird thunder that doesn't make it to clapping sound. Kids flew out of bed crying. Aftershocks came through very lightly. We were all quite shaken for a while.
  • Gowanbrae - Started with Creaking in the roof like someone was up their then a shunt, freaky feeling...
  • Australia - I was calling my fried who live in Reservoir not far from Northland shopping centre , She said to me the hearter is moving , the sofa and the whole house. between 5 th 6 seconds .
  • Yallourn North - Very scary Mum`n`I jumped behind couch, only lasted for about 60 sec Ripper (dog) scared, Gravel (cat) wont even start ( as in, probably still FREAKED today!! LOL) We have tile floor on top of concrete and Mum could see full on waves on the floor, My aunty was in her car at the time (just a little car)Thaught some MASIVE dude was jumping on`er car. LOL!!! :)
  • Melbourne - Felt the house shook strongly for 5 secs. Though the some car hit my garage and came out with my 2yr old, to know that it was an earthquake!
  • Melbourne - Sitting on desk and desk shook and tapped walls. Pretty scary, but a great experience
  • Congupna - Here we had a light shaking. Beds were shaking and couchs. no damage though.
  • Albury - The quake actually occured outside of melbourne, believe it or not it's not the earthquake that melbourne had. On another note. It was felt up in albury, few hours from Melbourne, it lasted only seconds but the tremor was definately felt here.
  • Blackburn South - Loud rumbling. I thought there were about 20 possums rnning across the roof. Light shaking.
  • Wandong Victoria - Was in a meeting when a sound came and thought someone was tring to get in the door doors and windows shook violently for 30-50 seconds then stopped then started again, very scary. Felt in Wandong at 8:54pm.
  • Sunbury Vic - I love it my bed felt like it was floating and the glass ca binets were bustin a move
  • Kerang Victoria - 10 - 15 seconds of a deep rocking motion as if on water instead of land
  • AUSTRALIA - I can't believe I did not notice it. I was out walking my two dogs near the beach at Parkdale at the time and they did not show any unusual reactions nor did I hear any other dogs barking.

    Small unstable objects are displaced or upset. Some glassware and crockery may be broken. Hanging pictures knock against the wall. Open doors may swing. Cupboard doors secured by magnetic catches may open. Pendulum clocks stop, start, or change rate.
    Structures :
    Some large display windows cracked. A few earthenware toilet fixtures cracked.
    MMI VI (Strong shaking) ?
    People Felt by all. People and animals alarmed. Many run outside. Difficulty experienced in walking steadily.
    Fittings :
    Objects fall from shelves. Pictures fall from walls. Some furniture moved on smooth floors, some unsecured free-standing fireplaces moved. Glassware and crockery broken. Very unstable furniture overturned. Small church and school bells ring. Appliances move on bench or table tops. Filing cabinets or "easy glide" drawers may open (or shut).
    Structures :
    Slight damage to buildings with low standard. Some stucco or cement plaster falls. Large display windows broken. Damage to a few weak domestic chimneys, some may fall.
    Environment :
    Trees and bushes shake, or are heard to rustle. Loose material may be dislodged from sloping ground, e.g. existing slides, talus slopes, shingle slides.
    MMI VII (Very strong shaking) ?
    People
    General alarm. Difficulty experienced in standing. Noticed by motorcar drivers who may stop.
    Fittings :
    Large bells ring. Furniture moves on smooth floors, may move on carpeted floors. Substantial damage to fragile contents of buildings.
    Structures :
    Unreinforced stone and brick walls cracked. Low standard buildings cracked with some minor masonry falls. A few instances of damage to buildings of ordinary workmanship. Unbraced parapets, unbraced brick gables, and architectural ornaments fall. Roofing tiles, especially ridge tiles may be dislodged. Many unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, often falling from roof-line. Water tanks Type I burst. A few instances of damage to brick veneers and plaster or cement-based linings. Unrestrained water cylinders (hot-water cylinders) may move and leak. Some common windows cracked. Suspended ceilings damaged.
    Environment :
    Water made turbid by stirred up mud. Small slides such as falls of sand and gravel banks, and small rock-falls from steep slopes and cuttings. Instances of settlement of unconsolidated or wet, or weak soils. Some fine cracks appear in sloping ground. A few instances of liquefaction (i.e. small water and sand ejections).
    MMI VIII (Severe shaking) ?
    People Alarm may approach panic. Steering of motorcars greatly affected. Structures : Low standard buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. ordinary workmanship buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged in some cases. A few instances of damage to buildings and bridges designed and built to resist earthquakes. Monuments and pre-1976 elevated tanks and factory stacks twisted or brought down. Some pre-1965 infill masonry panels damaged. A few post-1980 brick veneers damaged. Decayed timber piles of houses damaged. Houses not secured to foundations may move. Most unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, some below roof-line, many brought down. Environment : Cracks appear on steep slopes and in wet ground. Small to moderate slides in roadside cuttings and unsupported excavations. Small water and sand ejections and localized lateral spreading adjacent to streams, canals, lakes, etc.
    MMI IX (Violent shaking) ?
    Structures Many low standard buildings destroyed. Ordinary workmanship buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. Buildings and bridges designed and built to resist earthquakes damaged in some cases, some with flexible frames seriously damaged. Damage or permanent distortion to some buildings and bridges, designed and built to normal use standards. Houses not secured to foundations shifted off. Brick veneers fall and expose frames. Environment : Cracking of ground conspicuous. Landsliding general on steep slopes. Liquefaction effects intensified and more widespread, with large lateral spreading and flow sliding adjacent to streams, canals, lakes, etc.

      I didnt feel it.
      well i dont really remember but i was very scared of hearing about it . and how people had to fix things up .
      i hope it doesnt happen again but as we all no it might. but i was so scared because i do have a feeling that i felt it a bit :(

      We’re in Moe South and when it first hit didn’t know what was going on. I though a tree was falling in our roof and my 4yo thought monsters were standing on our house lol.
      House shook for 30-40 seconds.
      We had books fall off shelves, cupboard doors open and a few bits fall from shelves.
      Doesn’t look like any major damage though thankfully.
      I have never feared for my life quite like that before!
