Very strong earthquake along the coast of Hokkaido and Honshu , Japan
The distance to the coast is at least 50 km. The depth is an additional weakening factor
JMA Japan reports a max. intensity of 5+ which we consider as moderately dangerous
We will start an in-depth report in a few moments

Moderate earthquake in the Southern Peru coastal area
An intermediate depth earthquake very close to the Pan American highway in a sparsely populated desert area.
Deep earthquake below Ecuador
A moderate M4.6 (USGS) or M5.3 (Geofon automatic) has occurred at a depth of 161 km in the Pastaza river area (Amazon like lowlands). It will have been hardly felt by people because of the depth.
Moderate earthquake in Tanzania
The earthquake’s epicenter was located close to the Mtera Reservoir (Mtera dam). The dam is located on the border between the Dodoma region and the Iringa regions. Both cities will certainly have felt this moderate earthquake. People in the area are putting the responsibility of these earthquakes on the reservoir. A possible reason could be that water infiltration is lubricating underground layers who are triggering moderate earthquakes from time to time. Mtera Dam is the biggest hydroelectric dam in Tanzania. It measures 660 square kilometers at full capacity. The lake is 56 km long, and 15 km width, and is feed by the Great Ruaha River and the Kisigo River. Its capacity is 80 MW. The lake is considered one of the best places in Tanzania to observe birds, since in it are at the one million dead trees, and he has many shallow areas. Today’s earthquake will certainly have scared the people in the epicenter area but is not strong enough to generate damage. The hydroelectric dam is at the other side of the lake. We do not know how much Magnitude this dam can resist.

Useful information to read this daily earthquake list
This earthquake list covers important earthquakes in the world.
If a more detailed page is present, the earthquake line will be linked to the detailed page.
For your comfort, we will provide in most cases a Google Satellite Map to give you an idea where the earthquake struck, which terrain it happened and if villages or cities are located in the immediate vicinity. The multi-source approach has been setup to compare values as seismology is not an exact science and needs a lot of calculations. The reference for the time zone is UTC (Coordinated Universal Time, also called GMT). Color explanation if we add some details above the list :
green color = NOT dangerous for damage or injuries
orange color = MODERATE risk for damage or injuries
red color = CONSIDERABLE risk for damage or injuries
QuakeSOS+ and QuakeSOS free are iPhone applications developed by Armand Vervaeck, the founder of Earthquake Report. The Application simplifies immediate group communication to friends and family members (with your exact GPS location) and is feeding the users with Earthquake Report news. The 0.99 US$ QuakeSOS+ version will support the activities of SOS Earthquakes.
