Dangerous Mb4.2 earthquake strikes Brazil in the Montes Claros region. Some cracks have occurred to buildings including a shopping mall and much panic has ensued.
Moderate earthquake in Northern Italy
Epicenter in between Mantua and Ferrara. Close to Hermide and Felonica.
Very shallow but at this Magnitude certainly not damaging. The earthquake occurred at 01:13 local time
Strong earthquake far out of the Honshu coast, Japan
Due to the distance from the epicenter to the coastal cities, the intensity was max. 3 at Morioka-shi Tamayamaku-yabukawa (on a scale of 7). The earthquake happened at 04:05 JST (Japan Standard Time) at 169 km (105 miles) ESE of Hachinohe, Honshu, Japan. JMA reported a M5.8 at a depth of 10 km. 9 minutes later a M5.4 aftershock occurred in the same area.
Strong earthquake along the coast of Northern Chile
Universidad de Chile is reporting a Magnitude of 6.1 at a depth of 37 km.
92 km al NO de Chañaral. The epicenter is located approx. 40 km out of the coast.
It is currently night in Chile and the earthquake parameters are not strong enough to generate a tsunami.
All data are preliminary
Update 08:51 UTC : Strongest shaking values are noticed at the following locations :
Caldera : MMI VI (strong shaking)
Copiapo and Tierra Amarilla, both MMI V (moderate shaking) – source : Chile authorities (Chile ONEMI uses the values of Universidad de Chile to report his MMI values)
Update 08:57 UTC : USGS is labeling this earthquake with a Magnitude of 6.2 at a depth of 34.7 km. USGS puts the epicenter closer to the coast.
Update 09:00 UTC : The values above were preliminary and have been changed in the meantime to a similar Magnitude but to a depth of 84 km (MMI values will be probably adjusted to the downside). New epicenter is located at 52 km al SO de Taltal. Click here for the new epicenter location as provided by the Universidad de Chile, Santiago. The new calculated epicenter is approx. 15 km out of the coast. The currently reported depth looks too deep to Earthquake-Report.com (based on the location of the 2 subducting tectonic plates – the Nazca plate and the South American plate). We expect the final value more in the 40 km depth area (like USGS is reporting)
Update 09:24 UTC : First aftershocks are striking the area.

Useful information to read this daily earthquake list
This earthquake list covers important earthquakes in the world.
If a more detailed page is present, the earthquake line will be linked to the detailed page.
For your comfort, we will provide in most cases a Google Satellite Map to give you an idea where the earthquake struck, which terrain it happened and if villages or cities are located in the immediate vicinity. The multi-source approach has been setup to compare values as seismology is not an exact science and needs a lot of calculations. The reference for the time zone is UTC (Coordinated Universal Time, also called GMT). Color explanation if we add some details above the list :
green color = NOT dangerous for damage or injuries
orange color = MODERATE risk for damage or injuries
red color = CONSIDERABLE risk for damage or injuries
QuakeSOS+ and QuakeSOS free are iPhone applications developed by Armand Vervaeck, the founder of Earthquake Report. The Application simplifies immediate group communication to friends and family members (with your exact GPS location) and is feeding the users with Earthquake Report news. The 0.99 US$ QuakeSOS+ version will support the activities of SOS Earthquakes.
