  • San Ramon, Costa Rica - At first I thought it was a wind gust rattling the roof and then realized it was a quake. Had I not been awake I likely wouldn't have noticed. Kind eerie for this Ohio girl visiting!
  • Heredia - Double wave felt...woke me up quick
  • San Pedro, San Jose - lasted 10-12 seconds. Glass shaking, dog freaked out and everyone woke up.
  • Curridabat - I was awake for the quake- the rest of my family were asleep. I heard it coming, at first it sounded like a strong wind, then it sounded like the house was shifting around. It woke up most of my family because of the loud sound and strength of the quake
  • ciudad colon - At 2:50 in the morning woke me and my husband up. Felt like it lasted for about 20 seconds or less. This is the fourth one in the last couple of weeks.
  • Calle Blancos - Woke me up. Shook the house for a few seconds.
  • san jose - Strong enough to waken from sleep.
  • San José - 2:50 am sacudida rápida con movimiento de lámparas, con una profundidad de 15 km, 4,8 escala Richter ubicado Acosta.
  • Guacima - Felt house convulse for 2-3 seconds. Strong enough to shake the house. No damage.
  • 7TH FLOOR CONDO IN JACO - I WAS AWOKEN BY BY BED SHAKING WHICH LASTED AT LEAST FOR 20 SECONDS.
  • Parrita - I felt one fast strong shake about 2:40 - 3 in the morning.
  • escazu - A loud boom and the 7 story condo building shook so profoundly waking me out my sleep. It also woke other people up as I could hear their concern with talking very loudly. It was as if a loud fireworks had gone off right in the building. The whole building shaking for about 15 seconds was the scariest part.
  • San Jose - Nothing was damaged. Shake woke us from sleep.
  • heredia - È stato un botto molto forte, pochissimi secondi, ma intenso.
  • heredia - Pochissimi secondi, un botto molto forte.
  • San Ramon de Tres Rios - I was asleep, it woke me up. Lasted about 20 seconds.
  • Guadalupe - No damage, but woke us up and shook the windows, making loud noises. Lasted maybe 5-7 seconds, but we were out the door within 5 more seconds.
  • Manuel Antonio - Visiting from The Netherlands I was awake to feel my first earthquake.
  • Manuel Antonio - Just woke us up from a dead-sleep. Didn't last very long.
  • San Pedro, Montes de Oca - Awoke around 3:15 a.m. from light to moderate shaking. Nothing seems broken inside, still haven't made it outside, but I'm sure its fine. Most earthquakes I've been in are sudden and abrupt, but this one lasted what seemed 3-4 seconds of a stable moderate shake. No successive tremors last night, though for the last months since being back inCosta Rica, There have been constant MMI II, III, & IV
  • Guadalupe - It woke me up early in the morning to my windows were rattling together. I am not accustomed to earthquakes so I was unsure what it was at first, but then realized it was an earthquake
  • Alajuela - Woke me up...
  • Manuel Antonio - Around 3:50 am. Was already awake when it happened. Strong shaking as we are on the top floor of our hotel. Lasted maybe ten seconds or so, then some very light aftershocks.

    MMI VI (Strong shaking) ?
People Felt by all. People and animals alarmed. Many run outside. Difficulty experienced in walking steadily.
    Fittings :
Objects fall from shelves. Pictures fall from walls. Some furniture moved on smooth floors, some unsecured free-standing fireplaces moved. Glassware and crockery broken. Very unstable furniture overturned. Small church and school bells ring. Appliances move on bench or table tops. Filing cabinets or "easy glide" drawers may open (or shut).
    Structures :
Slight damage to buildings with low standard. Some stucco or cement plaster falls. Large display windows broken. Damage to a few weak domestic chimneys, some may fall.
    Environment :
Trees and bushes shake, or are heard to rustle. Loose material may be dislodged from sloping ground, e.g. existing slides, talus slopes, shingle slides.
MMI VII (Very strong shaking) ?
    People
General alarm. Difficulty experienced in standing. Noticed by motorcar drivers who may stop.

Unbraced parapets, unbraced brick gables, and architectural ornaments fall. Roofing tiles, especially ridge tiles may be dislodged. Many unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, often falling from roof-line. Water tanks Type I burst. A few instances of damage to brick veneers and plaster or cement-based linings. Unrestrained water cylinders (hot-water cylinders) may move and leak. Some common windows cracked. Suspended ceilings damaged.
    Environment :
Water made turbid by stirred up mud. Small slides such as falls of sand and gravel banks, and small rock-falls from steep slopes and cuttings. Instances of settlement of unconsolidated or wet, or weak soils. Some fine cracks appear in sloping ground. A few instances of liquefaction (i.e. small water and sand ejections).

Some pre-1965 infill masonry panels damaged. A few post-1980 brick veneers damaged. Decayed timber piles of houses damaged. Houses not secured to foundations may move. Most unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, some below roof-line, many brought down. Environment : Cracks appear on steep slopes and in wet ground.
