New Zealand (Christchurch) Landslide cliffs
In the Christchurch earthquakes there were a number of large-scale rock collapses in the areas to the south-east of the city. These events caused a small number of fatalities and considerable damage. At the lower end of the scale were some isolated rock detachments. $$$
USA-Mexico – (understanding April 4 2010 earthquake)
On April 4, 2010, the ground beneath the deserts of Baja California started to rumble, then rip apart, sending tremors throughout a region 40 miles south of the U.S.-Mexico border. Japan (tsunami decreases icebergs)
The calving of icebergs (where a huge chunk of ice breaks off from a glacier or ice shelf) from the Sulzberger Ice Shelf in Antarctica was linked to the tsunami, which originated with the magnitude 9.0 earthquake off the coast of the Japanese island of Honshu, by satellite observations of the Antarctic coast immediately after the earthquake. $$$$$$
Myanmar (rains hamper shelter construction)
Heavy rains pounding earthquake-struck Southern Shan State continue to hinder efforts to rebuild the homes of quake survivors, agencies say.
Of the 837 households destroyed by the 6.8 magnitude earthquake in late March, 88 families in 24 severely affected villages are still living out of tarpaulin tents as they await materials to rebuild, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) told IRIN. $$$$$$
