Canary Islands (El Hierro volcanic activity ?)
The Canary Islands Government has said it is monitoring an earthquake swarm on the small island of El Hierro where in excess of 400 tremors of low magnitude have been recorded in the past four days. On Friday, the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Government Security Canary convened the first ever meeting of the Steering Committee and Volcanic Monitoring, reflected in the Specific Plan Protection Civil and Emergency for Volcanic Risk, given what it described “the significant increase in seismic activity”. $$$

Haiti (homeless and stadium parking lot)
People began moving off the parking lot at the National Stadium in the capital today after Haiti’s government paid them to clear out off the spot that has been their home since last year’s earthquake. At least 30 families cleared their belongings from tents and shelters and left for an unknown destination. $$$
Chile (reconstruction)
The inhabitants of one of the largest refugee camps set up in the Biobio region after the Feb. 27, 2010 earthquake held protests demanding speedier reconstruction efforts. The people sheltered in the Aldea Molino de Dichato camp, many of whom lived in the devastated town of Tome, have begun a series of demonstrations over what they say is the slow pace of reconstruction and the lack of a permanent home, Radio Biobio reported Saturday. $$$
