Tohoku earthquake and Earth axis
According to various news sources, the Japanese earthquake and tsunami caused Earth to tilt/move 3 degrees off its axis. What is the end result of this tilt? Let’s start with this — the Japan earthquake and tsunami didn’t change Earth’s axis of rotation by 3 degrees. That would have had immediate and profound effects on life. $$$

Indonesia 2004 tsunami (tsunami source)
A team of international geoscientists has discovered how a thick plateau of hard, compacted sediments triggered an undersea earthquake off the coast of Sumatra in December 2004 that caused the deadliest tsunami in recorded history. Instead of the usual weak, loose sediments typically found above the type of geologic fault that caused the earthquake, the team found a thick plateau of hard, compacted sediments. $$$

New Zealand (damaged homes buyout)
The New Zealand government has offered to buy 5000 homes in Christchurch in a plan to move residents from areas hardest hit by recent earthquakes. Prime Minister John Key announced yesterday the areas that were unlikely to be rebuilt and those that had the construction go-ahead. He said up to $NZ635 million ($A492 million) would be spent buying out the 5000 properties. $$$

Italy (Etna eruptions in history)
Among the many eruptions of this volcano, the one in the year 1669, deserves to be recorded. In that year the summit was observed to send forth great quantities of smoke and flame; the top had fallen in, so that the mountain was much lowered; the islands of Vulcan and Stromboli, two volcanoes to the westward of Sicily, were observed to rage more than usual. Eighteen days before the eruption the sky was very thick and dark, with thunder, lightning, frequent concussions of the earth, and dreadful subterraneous bellowings. The Volcanism Blog

Canada (fault behavior)
The occurrence of slow slip in combination with seismic tremors was first discovered in the Cascadia Subduction Zone (CSZ) by scientists of Natural Resources Canada in 2003. The CSZ, which marks the most active seismic region in Canada, comprises the plate boundary between the oceanic Juan de Fuca Plate and the continental North America Plate. Over millions of years, these plates converge at an average rate of 4 cm/yr. Along the western edge of North America, from northern Vancouver Island to northern California, the Juan de Fuca Plate is slipping or “subducting” beneath the North American Plate. $$$

Japan tsunami (glowing waves)
The tsunami that devastated Japan in March and sent awesome waves of water across the Pacific Ocean also sent glowing waves into the sky, a phenomenon scientists caught on camera. The massive 9.0 magnitude earthquake that struck below the seafloor on March 11 sent waves of energy rushing through the ocean. That energy created the monstrous and deadly tsunami, but the tsunami itself sent waves of energy racing high into the atmosphere, smashing charged and neutral particles together as they went, which created so-called “airglow,” Science News reported. $$$

QuakeSOS+ and QuakeSOS free are iPhone applications developed by Armand Vervaeck, the founder of Earthquake Report. The Application simplifies immediate group communication to friends and family members (with your exact GPS location) and is feeding the users with Earthquake Report news. The 0.99 US$ QuakeSOS+ version will support the activities of SOS Earthquakes.
