Japan (tsunami relief money)
More than 169 billion yen in relief money offered as donations to the Japanese Red Cross Society and the Central Community Chest of  Japan for people affected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami is still being kept by the two bodies, their officials said Sunday.  Of the 251.3 billion yen collected by the two groups, only 82.2 billion yen, or about one-third, has been sent to 15 prefectures hit by the disaster. $$$

In Japan, more than 270,000 cars were ruined in the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. For the msnbc.com team reporting on the recovery in the Kesennuma area, the sheer number of ruined vehicles has been surprising. Japan (Toyota)
Toyota Motor Corp said on Friday it expects operating profit this business year to fall 35 percent to 300 billion yen ($3.7 billion) after Japan’s biggest earthquake on record severely disrupted car production and slashed sales. $$$

Armenia (earthquake preparedness)
During the June 10 sitting, the Armenian government approved a plan submitted by Armenian Minister of Emergency Situations Armen Yeritsyan for organization of population’s protection in case of a massive earthquake. The plan is of keen importance for Armenia, which is located in a seismic zone. Besides, according to experts, around 80% of constructions in Yerevan are not earthquake-proof. $$$
