This earthquake list covers important earthquakes in the world.
If a more detailed page is present, the earthquake line will be linked to the detailed page.
For your comfort, we will provide in most cases Google Satellite Map links to give you an idea where the earthquake struck, which terrain it happened and if villages or cities are located in the immediate vicinity. The reference for the time zone is UTC (Coordinated Universal Time, also called GMT)
The page is regularly updated to add new earthquakes.
green color = NOT dangerous for damage or injuries
orange color = MODERATE risk for damage or injuries
red color = CONSIDERABLE risk for damage or injuries

  1. Tyler says:

Is it possible for someone to be killed in the LA quake today?

I know it was a 3 and the mmi was either a 2 or 3. And no one has reported damage or casualties yet

    I’m just wondering.

    • Armand Vervaeck says:

No You will need at least an MMI VI to VII to get serious damage or injuries. In magnitude this comes to at least 5.5

    • Tyler says:

I think Japan got MMI VI a couple of times.

But they’re earthquake preparied for anything 6 and under right? And the pager called them a green report.

is the system treated differently for each country?

    • Armand Vervaeck says:

It is really too complicated to discuss here. If you look into our daily listing we are always explaining the values together with the shaking. You cannot compare the Japan scales with the USGS scales. The JMA Japan scale goes from 0 to max. 7. The USGS scale from 0 to 12.
