UPDATE 8:14 PM UTC : The shaking in Khakasia was so strong that furniture was moving in apartments and offices. The earthquake was also felt in Barnaul, Krasnoyarsk and western regions of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. (Source Itar-Tass)

The dam has been build to withstand moderate to strong earthquakes.

UPDATE 7:38 PM UTC : Following USGS theoretical calculations 236 people will have felt a moderate shaking (V MMI) and 58,000 a light shaking (IV MMI).
UPDATE 7:31 PM UTC : It will take until tomorrow to find out if the settlements close to the epicenter have been damaged or if people have been injured in this area.
UPDATE 7:20 PM UTC : The earthquake scared the people in a very wide area and people ran on the streets and stayed there for a while as they felt a number of very light aftershocks. Staying on the streets in Siberia means supporting freezing temperatures of -15°C (noon).
UPDATE 7:15 PM UTC : Russian sources are reporting that approx. 30 small settlements were close to the epicenter area. A couple of hours after the earthquake, communications with these settlements were lost.
UPDATE 7:10 PM UTC : Although old fashioned phones were still working, mobile telecommunications were impossible for a certain time as people were all calling at the same time. Telecommunications companies said that mobile centers were saturated.
UPDATE 7:08 PM UTC : Russian Academy of Sciences reports a magnitude of 5.6 at a depth of 27 km.
Earlier today a very strong shallow earthquake struck parts of the Republic of Khakasia, southern Siberia, Russia.
The epicenter was located in a wilderness area with only a few small settlements.
